Autumn's magic colour

A good colour analysis will end with a quick look through each and every colour from the client’s palette, picking out the very best colours from that palette. And I love hitting the ‘teal’ point in my own drapes, as almost every single Autumn I’ve ever analysed both looks amazing in, and loves, these colours.

While we might consider Autumn to be more Rust or Mustard, it’s actually the variations on teal that seem to suit the most people. And for me, the most versatile of our many (many) variations on this popular colour is Laguna, with its beautiful balance of blue and yellow, meaning it works with the traditional leafy Autumn shades just as well as the softest (and the deepest) colours within the palette.

Style notes: Pair teal with warmest Ginger and Camel for a classic colour combination that’s hard to beat. Need even more rich warmth? Swap Camel for a Moss Petra Jacket for a brighter autumnal look.

Style notes: Even with a deeper colour like Laguna, it’s easy to keep the overall feel of your outfit light and pretty by using light neutrals like Stone and pairing with brown-toned pinks and lighter teals.

Style notes: Autumn doesn’t have to mean greens and browns - opt for your deepest, blue toned teals and add a splash of something unexpected for a zingy look.

A final note on magic colours

You can see how much the one magic colour I’ve chosen works with the full range of the Autumn palette, but the truth is that almost any colour in your palette can work well for you when it’s styled in the right way. So if you’re not keen on teal, why not try another almost-universal Autumn shade? My favourites are Poppy, Dark Olive and Coral, but why not take the time to discover your ultimate magic colour?
