Kettlewell launches a shopping experience like no other!

Ever since founding Kettlewell back in 2004 I’ve dreamed of what I call my ‘Colour Emporium’; a beautiful, colourful space where customers can be guided by expert stylists through every step of their colour and style journey, supported to find not only their best colours but the perfect pieces of clothing to mix and match with the rest of their wardrobe and to make them feel amazing. In my daydream, the emporium includes a colourful Kettlewell tearoom (Kettlewell is my maiden name and I'm very partial to afternoon tea!)

It might have taken twenty years, but I’m overjoyed to finally realise my dream (without the tearoom – yet! But give me time…). This month we have officially opened the doors on our brand new Colour Studio; a shopping space like no other, where our expert stylists are ready and waiting to offer you advice and inspiration, helping you find colours, styles and combinations to fall in love with.

The Colour Studio came from a moment of serendipity (once again, my favourite word makes an appearance!), when a warehouse unit became available at Kettlewell HQ in Somerset. When I say warehouse, I really mean it – it was little more than a shed when we took it on in March this year – but I immediately saw the opportunity to bring the Colour Studio dream to life. Within weeks, our entire team had launched into action to create a unique, colourful and inspiring space for our customers to visit.

Jamie, our Operations Manager, gamely took on the role of project managing the conversion into a shop on top of his already-more-than-full-time role, while Lead Stylist Jo and I spent countless Friday nights after work plotting and planning how we wanted the customer experience to feel and look.

Along with the mammoth task of converting a warehouse into a welcoming retail space, we also needed to find stylists with the unique set of skills required to give our customers the best possible service. We were incredibly fortunate to recruit four amazing stylists to work in the colour studio, all of whom have had a long relationship with Kettlewell and understand not only our products and colours, but also our desire to create an unforgettable experience for our customers.

Finally, in June, the space was - more or less! - finished. Our first focus groups, made up of members of the Kettlewell Colour Club (our online colourful community), took place in July. They paid little heed to the lack of a ceiling in the toilet or the lack of air conditioning, and instead put all their energy and positivity into helping us polish up our offering and get it ready to serve out to our wider customer community.

On 5th September we officially opened our doors, and as I write this only a couple of days later, all the careful planning, hard work, and late nights (don’t ask Jo about her Friday evening spent spray painting the walls or Jamie about the endless weekend trips with electricians, builders and plumbers!), the studio is filled with colour, excitement and, above all, overjoyed customers having a shopping experience like no other.

I was thrilled to receive the first piece of feedback within hours; here’s just some of what our customers have been saying since they visited.

"I had a lovely morning yesterday at the new Kettlewell Colour Studio. Well worth the long drive. Apparently I was the second customer over the threshold. It was great to be able to see the colours and feel the fabrics plus everyone was so helpful. I was too busy trying on and putting together some outfits for a trip next month to think of taking photos. Also lovely to meet Melissa and Jo who popped in to see how the new venture was going. Highly recommend it! Bought some new colours that just called to me. Very pleased with my choices." Christina G

"Thank you Melissa for opening the colour studio, and thank you to the lovely ladies working there today, you were very helpful and I came home with some lovely new colours for me. I can’t wait until the next time." - Susan P

Such a fantastic treat to get to the new shop at Cricket St Thomas today - so beautifully laid out and, mores the point, such completely charming helpful ladies there. What a delicious treat and really great to plug into the Kettlewell knowledge of Jane, Sancha and Heather who knew their product inside out - what stars 🩵, came away with rather a lot, won’t be going for full disclosure at home!!! - Helen M

Wow! I was blown away by my visit to the Colour Studio today. I have been a “ colour nut” for years but only discovered Kettlewell during Lockdown. Since then, I have purchased many items and have tried to spread the word amongst friends and relatives of the joy of wearing the right colours. Visiting the studio was so inspiring and it was truly great to be surrounded by vibrant colours and lovely people. Heather, Jane and Sancha went above and beyond to help and advise me in every way. I can’t thank them enough. My husband Paul, waited patiently for me … he even ended up buying a polo top and men’s cotton half-zip top! To be able to try on the items in various sizes and colours was a game changer. Of course, I ended up buying gorgeous summer colours too!

We will be back very soon I hope, even though we have to travel from Cornwall. It’s definitely worth it!!

Congrats, this looks lovely. FYI, for those of us visiting this web page from the USA, the link to https://www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/colour-studio redirects straight to https://www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/us which is sad as I'm sure many of us would love to learn more and plan a visit when we're next on British soil. After all, London > Cotswolds > Bath > Kettlewell should be on everyone's list!

I don't know you but I love your energy, how you have an idea and make it materialise. So inspiring. All my own ideas for colourful, well designed and put together clothes which were only in my mind for many years, have come to fruition thanks to Kettlewell. Not sure when, but at some point in the not too distant future, I'd love to visit the Colour Studio. It looks fab

Promised I'd go before the pandemic, then got sabotaged by Covid. Now a much bigger affair so will get cracking and see if I can get down before Easter. Long way from Ilkley on the train
