Really like these silky roll necks, I have quite a few. Unfortunately I returned the last one. I really liked the crystal blue so thought I’d try a bigger size in large as it was the only one available in that particular colour. A piece of clothing which does what it says on the tin! It is a silky fabric, perfect to layer under a jumper or cardigan in colder weather. The roll neck is ideal, close fitting enough to be cosy but not enough to feel tight. The body is long enough to tuck in if you wish. I bought three of these newer ones in Ochre, Scarlet and Persimmon as an Autumn. I had some of the more indestructable ones from years gone by, and only wore this top for warmth in the winter, either woth a crew neck jumper or a Faux Wrap, either viscose or merino, or whatever. I wouldn't wear it on its own so always buy a size smaller for that purpose to avoid bulk. The fabric of the newer ones is much silkier and alas much thinner. The width of the neck is slightly bigger than all my others, but not baggy, and the top itself is sightly bigger and longer. I feel they are overpriced given the thinness of the fabric. A note on the colours, I recommend all the colours I bought for Autumns, but for what it is worth, I have never been convinced that Persimmon is for Winters. In practice it is a bright orange, not a Cool colour to me in nature, but KW do advertise it also as a Winter colour.- Una (15/02/2024)

I like the color and fitted style. I prefer !00% cotton which is more breathable than modal; therefore, I only gave 4 instead of 5 stars. I had to size up. I am usually small or extra small in U.S. sizing, but I wear medium in Kettlewell tops. Look no further for a roll neck. These are amazing! So silky and soft. The neck is a great shape and sits nicely. The top is long enough to pull down over your bottom but not too bulky if you want to tuck it in to a waistband. The white is very slightly see through and looks much better worn with a tee-shirt bra but that’s not a criticism just an observation. They wash very well and the range of colours are incredible. I love the Silky Roll Necks for use in the winter! I have noticed that the necks have gotten loose this season, which makes them look untidy on me. The body still fits the same, or I would try sizing down. I hope that they will go back to previous seasons measurements where the neckline seemed smaller and didn't bag.- KH (24/01/2024)

I love these shirts for these reasons: The neck is just right…not too snug, not too loose They are very soft, very comfortable to wear and launder well. I normally wear a medium but find with stretch fabrics, going up a size is a better fit for me. Not as clingy but definitely doesn’t look too big. I’m a middle of the road summer with short hair & a longish neck who feels the cold! I’ve tried the silky roll neck several times in my usual size small, but always found the neck too tight, almost a bit claustrophobic! But then a friend suggested I try the medium! I was recovering from shoulder surgery & needed a top that was a bit roomier as my range of movement was limited so this one was added to my basket (along with the amethyst diamond infinity) to be part of my Christmas outfit. And I’m hooked! The neck is perfect, not tight at all, keeps me snug, fits beautifully under cardigans, jackets, jumpers & the colour is a lovely soft medium pink. A winner! I have recently bought, at different times, two of these marvellous tops. The first in crystal, a beautiful shade which really lightens up the face, and wine blush. The latter is in a slightly different material which washes better, is softer and slightly more stretchy. It feels really silky against the skin. Is this material going to be used for all the silkies, or is it a one off, because it is a definite improvement. And is the beautiful lime colour being repeated, because I would rush to buy it if so! I had high hopes for this roll neck but sadly the neck was unbearably tight and within five seconds of trying it on I had to take it off immediately! Exchanged for the silky crew neck in the same colour, which I know will be perfect as I have it in other colours and I love the fabric. A shame, as I would really like to wear roll necks in Kettlewell colours. I don't have a large neck but can't stand anything too tight around it. Hard to cater to everyone's tastes though. I love Kettlewell silky roll necks. I now have six of them. They are such a useful layering piece. I like the length of them. I would say they are true to size. They wash and wear very well. I bought these in 2 gorgeous spring colours in the hope of them providing some cosy warmth around my neck in the cold weather. I would expect the larger sizes to be cut more generously around the neck than the small sizes, but this doesn’t seem to be the case. I wear them constantly throughout the winter months as a beautiful layering piece and love the pop of colour at the nck provided by the roll neck, Peach Echo is a fabulous colour too. I'm a small size 12 and take a medium in the Silky Roll Neck which fits perfectly, not too tight and the length is not too long. All in all, a great layering piece to add to my collection. Just received my first order from kettlewell and this item is my favourite. I need more of these in my life! I love the longer length and the ultra softness of the fabric. Downside? These need to be restocked and more colours added please. 🙏🏻 I’m a true spring (this is not the same as a “warm spring”) and interested in purchasing at least four more of these. ❤️ I need more colours both available, and in-stock for a Spring that doesn’t want to share with the other seasons. My best colours are not the ones that can be shared. I have just donated 90% of my previous wardrobe and wish to replace with only my best colours. Please restock the existing true spring colours and add more. This is my first silky roll neck and it is perfect for our long cold New England winters. I tried both a L and a LL since it was my first purchase, and I wasn't sure how fitted I would want it. I am normally a L in tops, and was a little worried about how tight this fitted style would be across my tummy. It is quite fitted, so unless I lose about 10 pounds, I won't be wearing this without a layer on top. But it is perfect for layering, and for around my home without a layer. It took me a couple of tries to get the sizing right on this (apologies for the returns, Kettlewell!), but I found the Small just way too snug. The Medium worked better for me. These are really quite fitted, and I'm self-conscious wearing them on their own--it does feel like they are definitely intended to wear under something else. I came back and bought more colors once I found the fit. They look great under my Chloe jackets, under the Evie sweater, or under button-downs left open. They are great as layer pieces and they have livened up some rather underwhelming sweaters! I know it’s not what you might call ‘A Colour’ but the black has proved very handy because it provides a ‘link’ with black trousers/skirts and a brighter coloured sweater. This is my 11th SRN, and this new Damson one might be my favorite! I have requested this color on many Wishlist Wednesdays, and I am grateful to Kettlewell for having added Damson to the rainbow of colors already offered…it’s a definite winner for this Sultry Winter! I purchased my first SRN in 2020, and I am pleased to report that the sizing, feel and fabric are consistent across all the SRNs that I have purchased since then. I am 5’3” and 110 lbs, and I prefer size Medium. It is long on me, but the soft, silky fabric does not bunch when tucked in. I wear the SRNs almost daily in the autumn, winter and spring as I feel the cold easily. As such, I wash these frequently per the instructions, and line dry. These jumpers are literally The Best.. all the silky range is so good. Terrific fabric that washes and wears so well, keeping it's shape and colour. I have lots of colours and styles and I love them all. Can I say one tiny negative thing: the 'new' labels are awful. They don't lie flat, so they stick up and then scratch your neck. The way they are attached makes it difficult to cut them out without risking damage to the garment but living with them is a pain in the neck :( Nothing will ever put me off your wonderful basics and I'm sorry to mention the labels.!!- Debbie (21/11/2023)

I had 2 dresses in my wardrobe (not KW) which were the wrong colours. I bought the fresh lime to go under one and the bright navy to go under the other. Had I seen the fresh lime in a shop I might’ve walked past it wondering who would buy it. But , for a spring winter it’s a lovely colour and gives colour to my pasty face. The bright navy is a revelation. It made the colours in the dress more jewel like and it looks to be such a versatile colour I may have to get another. I have three of these and am delighted with the quality and they are warmer than the pure cotton ones I have used for years. But, why do they have to be so long? My 5’11” husband put one on and he had more than enough to tuck in but I am only 5’5”. I bought the silky roll neck in Chalk Violet medium. I’m between a size ten and twelve. Being 5” 3” the sleeves and body are very long ( I tend to find this with Kettlewell..not made for petites) but they scrunch up being a fine fabric. What a gorgeous colour for summers . It really seems to lift my complexion and also other colours worn with it..burgundy, deeper pinks, blues.. It is also a great layering piece for winter. Bought this in Chalk Violet - a lovely pale pink shade which suits my (fading!) Summer colouring. Very thin & stretchy and slips wonderfully beneath a cashmere V neck. Adds surprising amount of warmth without adding bulk. Very pleased with my purchase. Bit long (in body and sleeve length), but I just wear it tucked in or scrunched up which seems to work! I live in Colorado near the Continental Divide and wear turtlenecks 7 months of the year. These are hands down the finest I have ever found!! The fabric is so soft and of HIGH quality and the colors are vivid and rich!! I am so grateful to have found Kettlewell - all of their products are amazing and the colors so vibrant and wonderful!! I have just purchased my third silky rollback this one in Rich Moss. The colour is perfect, I had one in a similar colour that I had been looking to replace for years, eventually I had to reluctantly throw it out as it was no longer fit for purpose!! but I kept a small piece of fabric and have been searching to colour match, I was so happy to see it in the catalogue this year. I wish there was more of this colour in the way of knitwear (well anything really) for my Autumn colour scheme. These Silky roll necks are my life saver my go-to as soon as the colder weather hits and are often my daily base layer from October right to March and in 2023 right into May! I therefore collect all the winter colours so I can still have variety in options of colour and I style them differently. It so easy and keeps my neck warm and protected. Such a clean classic style that you can do anything with it. and the fabric is just the best, smooth as silk but even more comfortable. Chic. Now this fresh lime is an immediate favourite! what a lift to any grey day!!! sunshine near your face and it instantly lifts the spirits and energises your day. Buttery soft. The roll neck is snug enough to keep out the cold but not tight or restrictive. I’m 5 feet tall, so it does gather around my middle, but it’s a great basic to wear underneath jumpers and blouses. This is the first time I’ve tried silky roll necks having heard how indispensable these can be. I hesitated because a roll neckline is not recommended for me by the stylist I saw. However I must say how pleased I am with the two I ordered. They work for me in these paler colours with darker knitwear over the top and because they are in a fine fabric. This one is a great colour and mixes with so many clothes I have. It adds some warmth and is very comfortable to wear. Perfect fit too. I will often add a scarf to my ensemble so even warmer. I particularly wanted the roll neck to keep itchy mohair knitwear off my skin including my neck. This does the job very well and is well worth the money to have this quality and such a fabulous selection of colours. I have been buying silky roll necks since they were first introduced and love them. The soft yellow one I already have is beginning to look a bit sad so I purchased the current canary yellow one. Most in my drawer are L with a few M. I am a good size 14 but find the sleeves on the L too long but the M is a bit snug to wear without something over the top. I ordered an M and the yellow colour is a bit see through as well. I am typically a Kettlewell small, but find the small (and medium) silky roll necks too restrictive and irritating at the front of the neck. Sizing up x2 means that the fit is loose, but this works fine in a roll neck as I nearly always wear something over it anyway. So pleased at love the softness of the silkies!!- JulietteK (30/03/2023)

BUT over winter I have really enjoyed wearing them with the roll neck and the long sleeve giving pops of a different colour that I can see when sat at my desks (macademia with coral sweatshirt was lovely) and it makes me happy. The Silky Roll Neck top has been my best purchase this season. It’s soft, warm and feels incredibly sumptuous. It’s a delight to wear, so comfortable and cosy. The roll neck fits snugly on the neck and keeps that area very warm. The sleeves and the length fit me perfectly and can be pulled up, like Jo likes to wear them, when necessary. I love the longer length of the garment and a belt over the top adds and extra dimension, especially in a contrasting or metallic colour. I don't like roll necks generally, they don't especially suit me, and this one does feel quite tight around my neck so I tend to fiddle with it. I knew all this about myself before buying, but I bought it anyway, in a colour I've never tried before, specifically to wear under a jumper I already had which I find quite itchy. So layering a long-bodied, long-sleeved, high necked top under it made sense, and it works well. I'm surprised (as a 'blue autumn' who suits the deeper colours) just how nice 'macadamia' looks so it's given me more confidence to widen the range of colours I wear. The style- good basic for layering. I wish the fabric on the neck was not as slouchy makes it look a bit frumpy.I wish it looked neater on the neck area. Also the sleeves are a bit long and the length of the top is quite long and I have a long body. My problem with it that it doesn’t look sharp. Had I planned to wear as a top for its own right I wouldn’t keep it, since I bought it for layering purposes, I don’t care as much. Sizing- I’m happy I decided to go with LL eventually, instead of my usual L. What a fantastically versatile piece! I bought this ro match my ruched skirt and have worn the two on several occasions as a very comfortable dress. At 5'1" tall I find the sleeves a wee bit long but usually push sleeves up anyway so no problem. Silky Roll Necks are a staple of my winter wardrobe - there are now nine in my closet - and I'm still looking to add a few more colors. After a recent style consultation, I was advised not to wear roll necks but the fabric of these is soft, silky, and forgiving enough that I can triple roll the collar without it becoming too thick and chunky, and so create a "mock neck" look to avoid the "floating head" appearance that the consultant warned against.- Paula (10/11/2022)

Roll Necks are not ideal for me as a buzom, short-necked person. That said I see the value of these. I have two, in tulip wood & smoke-blue. Tulipwood was an immediate success; smoke -blue which I had anticipated would be perfct, less so. I think it's probably something to do with the shiny effect of the 'silky' -- I generally dislike shiny fabric - the smoke-blue does not work especially well for me in this cloth. Cosy, colourful comfort at its best! The SRN is one of my favourite Kettlewell styles and a wardrobe staple for almost 6 months of the year; usually layered under a Rachel Jacket or merino sweater. I love how silky-soft they feel to wear and the rainbow of vibrant colours and useful neutrals available. They are such superb quality and wash so wash well that although they might not be the most figure-flattering style on me, tucked in, their length and lack of bulk make them the perfect base layer. I think its because I have long legs and a short body, so when I am wearing contrasting colours in particular, it make my body proportions more balanced. This was my first silky roll neck. I was encouraged to buy after reading so many good reviews at Kettlewell and on Facebook. I am so glad I did. The silky roll-neck is so soft and comfy. Just right for the cold weather. Even my husband noticed and said how much the colour and style suited me. I am usually a size 16 (bust 39") but bought a size L as I have slim hips and i didn't want this long top flapping around my hips! My only gripe is that viscose seems difficult to wash. This Chinese blue is a surprisingly versatile colour for a Winter. I dare not count how many SRNs I have, I live in them from October to March. They are a wonderful soft comfortable layer under a jumper, cardigan or fleece. They conform to the body without feeling at all restrictive, adding warmth without bulk. I wouldn’t wear them alone as they do conform to the lumps and bumps and wouldn’t be warm enough on a cold morsel like me but are absolutely perfect for layering, adding warmth together with a pop of colour at the neck and Kendall cuffs (a la Alex Kendal). I have got 8 silky roll neck tops now. I still wear the first ones I bought as they keep in perfect shape. Lovely colours. I have bought 2 this season : in Apple and Chinese Blue. The colours are absolutely gorgeous and they are my staples for wearing underneath fleeces, as although I live abroad it can get very humid in the winter. I buy a small despite being a medium because I prefer a tight neck and the tops are for layering. I have mentioned before that I preferred the really snug necks from years ago but perhaps I am the only customer that does so. I have a slight problem with the length of the Kettlewell sleeves but these are a perfect length for me. The body is long on me, but it tucks into my trousers smoothly. I am 66 and always chilly, so I wear these SRN’s virtually every day as the temperature drops. They look especially wonderful under the Studio Sweatshirt, the Dina Sweatshirt, the Erin Fleece Jacket and the Georgia Swing Top, among others. I was cold in the usually freezing schools before covid but now the windows are open it is Baltic. This is my 4th silky roll neck, Im a size 10/12 and the first one I bought was medium as I thought they may be snug around the neck, but the last three have been small and I feel they’re a better fit. I have another arriving in a few days. Just love these silkies. Ticked the colour as silver, but it’s actually Dove Grey, which doesn’t now appear on the list. Just love the silkies as I feel the cold and they keep me lovely and warm wearing as a base layer and add a pop of colour too. I usually wear under a top or sweater or just with a wrap or jacket over. My husband has complimented me when I have worn on their own. I have too baby to count! This is my seventh Silk Roll Neck! It is a perfect layering piece for cold weather. I bought Bubblegum this time and although it's not one of my wow colors, my consultant said it's fine at 25% of an outfit, peeking out from a sweater. I hope this will be brought back in XS because the S is a tad loose. For reference, I am a US size 2, which I think is about a UK size 6. I recently got bleach on my old non-KW black turtleneck, and I was secretly very happy for having ruined it…I was able to rationalize purchasing this new KW black rollneck! The fabric is soft and lovely and warm without being bulky. The color is a deep, rich black which did not fade in the slightest when washed per instructions. As a jewel winter, I am able to wear black successfully, and this SRN contrasts beautifully with my brightly-colored Imogens, Supersoft Sweatshirts and under my luscious Carmine Red Roxy with my Red Suede KW belt! I am a huge fan of the silky roll neck individually under a jacket/poncho/dress/waistcoat whatever, or fully layered. It is so versatile and can be worn year round. Very comfortable against the skin and I just wash on 30 gentle spin, hang to dry and don't even iron. This is a Kettlewell signature item. Because of the roll neck being right next to the face and on show almost whatever you wear it with, it needs to be a wow colour. This is unlike the silky crew or scoop neck (I love these too but wear them slightly differently). As a True Summer there just aren't any wow colours available and haven't been for a while. I would like a wow in each of the main Summer colour groups so pink/red, blue, and green for example cyclamen, amethyst, rose madder, cornflower, delph, duck egg, jade green. Then I could buy more. I only have Indian Teal which is a fabulous mid depth colour that I was looking for but I just can't see any others. Having looked for the other seasons the coverage is far better. Please, I don't want navy, grey, true red or soft white I want to truly showcase this Kettlewell hero.- Zoe (07/04/2021)

Another fabulous addition to my wardrobe! So cosy, versatile and vibrant, this beautiful top is equally at home over a base layer, on its own, or under a snuggly jumper or shawl wrap. The neck can be worn folded over or ruffled for a different look. And the colour is gorgeous! A zinging bright green which matches and contrasts with so much of my Kettlewell spring wardrobe. Love it worn with an infinity over the top too. All in all, one of my favourite KW purchases. I sized up to a medium as I prefer a looser fit. I'm 5' 4'' and short waisted, so the top is long on me. I bought two silky roll necks in red earth (my absolute favourite) and mustard. The colours are both great, and when winter comes, I will surely wear them constantly. I am a size 12. I can wear either M or L in the silky crew neck style, but I generally prefer the roomier L as I mostly wear them over other tops. In this case, I would only wear the roll neck layered under other tops or jackets, so I initially got a M. The body was perfect, but I found the neck a bit too fitted for me (I can’t bear tight things), so I exchanged for a large.- Corinne (25/03/2021)

I was really pleased to find this on the site in XS as so few of the silkies are available in an XS. I had hear such a lot about them so wanted to try for myself. Fabulous material. Quite long on me, even though I'm short waisted, as I'm only 5'2" but not a problem, as can tuck in or layer. The Red Earth colour is beautifully rich and perfect for Autumns. These are great. I resisted them for years because they looked shiny and way too clingy. But have realised layering works much better with a slim-fitting base even if you wouldn’t wear the top so tight on its own. The silky roll neck is one of my favourite Kettlewell pieces. I wear under knitwear keeping my knitwear clean and reducing washing. I wear under necklines which are too wide making these look better. I wear under itchy jumpers so no more itching. I wear on their own with a wrap or jacket over. I now have quite a collection, at least 8. Charcoal, bubblegum pink, serenity, misty aqua, pebble grey, nimbus, deep claret, soft lavender. Easy to wash and dry by following instructions. I left it too late in the season to have a choice of summer colours but I was able to buy the Heliotrope colour which I love! I am 5ft 6 inches tall or 168 cms and normally an 8-10 size and I bought the small size which fits me very well. I really love the long length. I like the fitted feel, it is certainly comfortable but if you like a more relaxed look I would recommend going up a size. I have bought several of these tops over the years , though do not have, as yet, all the summer colour options. The composition seems to have changed slightly from 95% cotton to modal but it gives the same comfortable feel. They all wash and wear well. At this time of year I wear them under a jumper for extra warmth but would also be happy to wear them on its own.- Angela (16/02/2021)

It's a lovely smooth fabric and is a flattering body skimming fit. Bought as a base layer, however I'd happily wear it on its own (M would have been too clingy to do so). Decades ago I wore thin polonecks under everything all winter, then they disappeared. TThen I was advised not to wear them as a DD bust. Tempted by these for ages but put off by the length as I'm 5'1" size 10. Decided to try. It is very long but so fine that it tucks well into jeans and I turn back the sleeves for now. May permanently shorten. Neck perfect. Put it on and didn't want to take it off! Very comfy and warm and looks great under my grey, blue and ivory jumpers and fleeces. My first NEW silky roll neck and I ADORE it immediately. Its not too tight but the neck is neat and snug as I hate them droopy . It's super long on me lol, its a mini dress as Im only 5 ft 1. Its going to be worn almost daily until summer as the colour is divine and makes me feel so good. It also goes with everything I have in terms of knitwear layers. I then ordered one in black, but have had to return it, as somehow it just didn't look as nice. I'd love one in navy, and another in white, but they're out of stock. I have just ordered two more Silky Roll Neck tops - I think that says it all - nothing more I can add to previous reviews......I am in my 70's and had 'inherited' two modal tops from Gudrun Jorgenson which were fabulous to wear under thick, woollen polo neck jumpers, stopping any itching from contact of wool with skin, so I 'surfed' the internet for a source of modal tops and found Kettlewell Colours - the rest is History! I am an artistic person so colour is important to me and I don't want to 'grow old and beige,' rather 'Ab Fab', which Kettlewell allows me to be. My age feels the cold more these days and one of these tops worn under a cashmere/ wool knit keeps me toasty-warm walking the dog on the coldest of days up here in the Shropshire Hills. Full disclosure--I love these silky roll neck tops (I must have 10 of them at least). They are comfortable, stylish, sensational as layering pieces and seem to be quite durable despite being fairly thin (by design). However, I just received one in Acid Yellow and was a bit disappointed in the color. While every computer monitor is different (yes, I know), the Acid Yellow seems more like a very light green. Not a bad color, mind you, but no where near the vibrancy I expected when ordering something with the name "acid yellow". I almost thought someone had sent the wrong item. I will keep it (so I have something to wear with my other acid yellow / green pieces) but really wish the color had been more true to the name and the picture on my monitor.- Babbs (22/01/2021)

Delighted with navy roll neck. Smooth and silky so feels good against your skin and goes under top layers without bulk. I don't like the length, in contrast to Hilary as it takes a while to tuck into waistbands without bunching up. Very warm when it is tucked in though. Disappointed that a broken nail pulled a thread so I'll have to be very careful to maintain it's smooth surface. This is my 4th Silky Roll Neck - I chose the gorgeous Mustard colour. I do like these roll necks for layering in the colder months and have been needing another couple for a while. I decided on Mustard, although I already have an Imogen top in Mustard, because it is such a warm colour for winter and looks super under so many of my thick winter jumpers. The fit is good. I wear M in these, I am a small size 12. The roll neck is not too tight and can either be folded down neatly or worn more casually in wrinkles. The sleeves are long for me but the length of the body is good - long enough to show beneath jumpers if needed. The fabric is quite fine and beautifully soft but also warm - provides a perfect layer of warmth in a very stylish way. Just wanted to add my thoughts on the silky roll neck top. I ordered two, for the first time, and am wearing the gorgeous Cobalt Blue which arrived yesterday. The other will come when stock arrives. I love the fit ( small) and the neck is just right to feel cosy but not tight and uncomfortable. The arms and body length are excellent and all in all, will be ordering more to see me through the winter and early spring. Wish I had found these and thought to try them out earlier. Love these silky roll necks. Have got at least 5. Warm, comfortable to wear and beautiful colours. I am a medium but always buy a small to get a tight neck. Use them for layering under clothes in the winter so it doesn't matter if they fit tightly. This year the neck has changed. Not sure if I like it as much. It is longer and not so tightly fitting. The whole idea was to have a tight neck that doesn't lose its shape. I haven't washed the new ones enough yet to know if it does lose its shape. Reply from Kettlewell - The fit hasn't changed although each production can vary a little due to manufacturing tolerances. We aim for a neat fitting neck without it feeling restrictive.

I have had these silky roll necks in previous years and been absolutely delighted with them. However, this year i ordered the papaya colour, it looked really vibrant and I was really impressed with the colour. Unfortunately the fabric though still silky was a lot thinner in quality. A dark coloured bra definitely cannot be worn underneath, as it is clearly seen. I bought two of these roll necks. A few years ago I bought one and found the small to be very tight around the neck, but ok elsewhere. This time I ordered a small and a medium and returned the small because again the small was too tight around the neck to the point of being uncomfortable. If you don’t like the feeling of being strangled then take a size up. Otherwise they are fine, the colours are good and they are comfortable in the right size. Very good for another layer. They are also really comfortable and have long enough sleeves, which I definitely appreciate. There were some small gathering on the back of the neck that should have been smooth. I’m a petite so the sleeves were quite long and the length was very long. I wish they offered a petite option. And now there are three! Just received my Fuschia and Deep Claret Silky Roll Necks (size Medium) to accompany my previously purchased True Red. Their high necks and long sleeves keep me warm and cozy as the weather cools in the Pacific Northwest USA. I easily layer these under my Supersoft Sweatshirts and they even lie smoothly under my much-thinner Imogens! The Silkies wash and line dry beautifully, and I continue to follow laundering instructions carefully to avoid snags and to extend the life of these Kettlewell investment pieces. This was the first item that I have purchased an item in Fuchsia, and I was a tiny bit surprised by the color. As a Jewel Winter, I expected it to have a bit more of a purple undertone, similar to the Festival Fuchsia in Merino. Instead, in the Silky fabric, it seems to have a pinker tone, a bit different than I expected, but still lovely and useful. The Deep Claret is a full and rich and beautiful color as well. I bough soft white and light aqua to layer under a coral Dina sweatshirt when it’s chilly. The neck feels snug but not tight and sits nicely. I need to buy LL to accommodate my 40 inch chest which fits well and doesn’t cling round the midriff area. I ordered a Medium and a Large to try. I am a size 12 and found the large too big around the armholes and too baggy to give a smooth finish under other garments. I surprised myself how much I liked the silky roll neck. On the first try the neck was quite tight going over my head. After I took it off to try on the large, I could still feel the tightness of the neck. However, on a second try, the neck had softened and stretched. I had a lot of fun trying it under jackets, jumpers and cardigans in my wardrobe. I think it looks really good paired with more textured items, particularly mohair and faux fur. I even found that it brought to life a couple of grey jumpers and a cardigan I purchased pre "colour therapy" (so not in my Autumn palette) but just couldn't throw away. I found the crew a little too low to stop woollen jumpers tickling, but this roll neck gives perfect ‘protection’. The neck is versatile and can be worn high with wrinkles when colder, turned over once or twice, outwards or inwards. It is very soft and non bulky and a perfect length for a tall person (5’9”). I have recently bought this silky roll neck top in pink ice which I thought would go well with most of my wardrobe. I watched the video, which I found very helpful, it's great to see a 'normal' person in the clothes rather than the super skinny models who make everything look fabulous! I ordered Small and Medium just in case - I am normally a Size 10 - and although the Small fitted me well, I stuck with the Medium as I like to have a bit of room. I love this top and have had complements when wearing it. It is very versatile and the colour really works for me as an autumn. I bought a size medium which fits well without being tight. I am between 10 and 12 and take size small in looser fitting kettlewell tops, but sized up for this which was the right choice. The top is nice and long. Very pleased with my new silky roll neck in Dolphin grey. Wasn’t sure about the colour at first but looks good on and will go well with so many jumpers and tops when used as an under layer. Very soft, L fits well on me (size 14), shapely without being skin tight. Best thing is the length, I am 5’9” and tops are rarely long enough but this is perfect. Kettlewell It would be great if you could make product lengths more prominent on your site, so that it’s easy to see at a glance which products might suit - maybe a table showing all lengths for easy comparison, or a length ‘icon’ on each item? This is my first Silky Roll Neck, as I am fairly new to the Ketlewell range. I love the fit, which is perfect for me in size Small. I llke a close-fitting top but often struggle with sleeve length, as I have long arms. No problem with these sleeves and the neck remains close-fitting too, which is rare in a roll-neck. The fabric is deliciously soft and the colour, Red Earth, is a subtle blend somewhere between rust and orange. It's also nice and long, perfect as an outer layer or underneath a shirt or warm jumper. The color is perfect for my Jewel Winter coloring, the fabric is deliciously soft, and the fit it perfect on my 5’3” 114 lb frame. I chose rosewood as it is one of my 100% wow colours. It looks really good under my chestnut Chloe. The neckline is cosy, but I think it will be fine. It is a really comfortable base layer. This is the first silky roll neck I've bought. Fabric is super smooth and very comfortable to wear. The fit was good as the garment didn't wrinkle when worn as a base layer. The only small point I would mention is that the neck is very tight when passing over the head but you probably can't avoid that if the roll neck is to be smooth. Reply from Kettlewell - There is 0.5cm tolerance on the neck so it could be that one colour is a touch bigger than another.

During the fall and winter months, turtlenecks paired with mid- to long cardigans are my daily "uniform," so I purchased turtlenecks in several colors. When my hair is highlighted a light blonde I can get away with wearing many spring and autumn colors. This year I went back to my natural color which is a dark, ashy brown. As a brunette, I am more of a deep autumn. I picked up the turtleneck in rosewood just to bring some softness into my wardrobe. I must admit the rosewood is a sleeper hit. I look absolutely stunning with a healthy glow - no makeup required. I am an inverted triangle ( sort of) and normally wouldn't rush into a turtleneck as it tends to make my shoulders wider. Really happy with this top. I bought a size S in Chocolate - I usually wear a UK 8-10 and the fit is great. I like that you don’t need to wear another top underneath it (unlike other roll necks on the high street which are often see-through). But equally it’s slim fitting enough that it can be layered underneath warmer clothing and worn as a thermal in colder weather. Lovely soft fabric. I love these Slinky Roll Neck tops; they are not cheap, but you have to pay for quality, I guess. They wear well too, keeping their shape, feel and colours for years. I bought another recently; in Chocolate and Light Emerald. The latter is a cooler shade than it appears on the website - slightly closer to a jade than a leaf. I was a little disappointed at first, as it isn't a shade I'd have chosen normally. I absolutely love the fit and feel of the fabric, especially the high, scrunchable neck, so I just ordered four more in other luscious colors! The cobalt is ever so slightly on the teal side. I was hoping cobalt would be closer to the sapphire color that is offered in a few other garments, but not in the silky roll neck, sorry to say. First, I must say that I love these tops and have purchased these in multiple colors. I will probably buy more--they are almost addicting! They are easy to wash (I usually hand wash just due to my own preference) and then dry on low in the dryer. The necks stay up (don't sag) and the fit is perfect for layering in the cold weather or as a stand alone in warmer weather. Really top notch. The red is a nice true blue-red (I would welcome MORE shades of red). "Serenity", which I just purchased is not quite what showed on my monitor (my monitor showed a saturated light-to-medium periwinkle). In real life, this is more of a light blue-grey; more like a "cornflower" blue. It is a lovely, sophisticated color, so I am keeping it, but as others have noted, this color in particular seems hard to render on a screen.- B (13/03/2020)

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly Starting with The Ugly. Delphinium in S desperately wanted and was "lucky" to find a returned one. On arrival, not so lucky as the stitching at the neckline was very poor with some material actually caught in a seam. Returned. If you are buying one then check the neck seam. The Bad. Sea Foam. Oh how I wanted to love this colour but it was far duller in real life than the website suggested. As a Cool Summer it just didn't work for me - but honestly, on a redhead? Wow! The Good. Pink Ice absolutely hit the spot. Looks great under my poncho in Marine Navy, and my new Lavender Merino Tunic. Am hoping for new colours next year - Ice Blue, and Silver Grey ..... Lovely fit, soft and comfortable to wear on its own or under something else. Neck isn’t too tight so it’s not difficult to get on and off and it still sits nicely on your neck. As a long time Kettlewell fan, I am writing a review on this top, having worn it on a number of occasions. It is the first time I have tried the 'silky' fabric, modal, and while it seems pleasant when inactive, I find it most uncomfortable when doing anything active – other than sitting still. It behaves like polyester, causing me to sweat (which I never normally do) and feel cold and clammy at the same time. I admit that I don't normally wear roll-necks (to avoid the mono-boob look), but I wanted these specifically to wear under tunic tops for an added layer of warmth. My first Roll Neck was a L in the gorgeous Old Gold colour which although it was really a bit too big I worn it again and again last winter and it's still my 1st choice of garment. This time, as I've lost a little weight, I bought the size M (gorgeous Sea Foam colour) and it fits beautifully! I absolutely love it! The colour is very pretty and the fit is almost perfect. These silky tops are very clingy for me and do show a few lumps and bumps plus underwear so I usually wear them as layering tops but nevertheless, they are perfect, ideal wardrobe staples. The white top just purchased seems much thinner than those bought in previous years and the seams are visible down the arms. However, as this was bought to wear under things it does not concern me too much but not sure I would wear this colour without something on top. I love the vibrant red coral colour - really unusual and hard to find in the shops. I am 5'6" (168cm) and a size 8/10, so I first ordered a size XS but found it to be too tight (although plenty long enough). I exchanged it for a size S, which was perfect. I love the silky feel of the material and really appreciate that the sleeves are long enough. I bought four of these silky roll necks in summer colours and worried that the body would be too short. I am 5' 9" and I like things to be long enough to cover my waist and rest on my hips. These are perfect. I love the fabric, the colours are great and they wash beautifully. I mostly wear them tucked in but they are also great outside skinny jeans or a pencil skirt with or without a belt. Great for layering. These will be my go to tops this autumn and into winter. I have bought three of the roll necks (delphinium, soft white and pink ice) in a size S and will be buying more! They are so comfortable - I am 5'9", size 10 top, and the length in the body is great (plenty to tuck in if you want to!) and the neck is not too tight or restrictive like you can get with some roll necks. The silky, stretchy fabric is soft to the touch and I find the fit just right - not too tight, not too loose. I am 5 feet 2 and they are very long. It did not matter this time as they are intended to go under tunics. I am an eight petite and ordered two tops in XS. I found the necks to be extremely tight, to the point where they were difficult to pull over my head. An absolutely beautiful sweater. I am really pleased with it. It fits perfectly and hangs superbly. I am a size 10/12 and bought medium as I read reviews it can be quite clingy. Having lost a little bit of weight, I tried a smaller size, and found it was a much better fit - not so long, sleeves a bit shorter. The silky roll neck is a really good fit and has a lovely texture. I am also pleased it has long sleeves because I have very long arms! I would love to see a wider range of colours for the roll necks. What about a darker, deeper purple, a plum, a deep orange (a darker shade to the one you already have), a deep blue/green, a fig and a dark violet? Just a thought! The Silky Roll Neck in Old Gold has been on my list of 'must-haves' for absolutely ages and I really expected to love it but unfortunately it didn't look as good on me as I had imagined. The silky fabric is too clingy for me, cellulite dimples show too much on the tummy. I ordered large and consequently it doesn't fit too well around the neck and shoulders but sort or skims my tummy. I will wear it under Tasha Tops but not on it's own. Don't think I'll get any more of the silky fabric tops - sadly. However, no complaints with Kettlewell - I love the concept of their colours and have a few of their garments which I love. I was worried that the small might be a bit too loose a fit for me, as I'm a size 8-10, but the fit is perfect :) they are so versatile and can be dressed up or down to suit the occasion. Years ago M&S did a range of silky tops that were slim, close fitting and came in many colours - they were a welcome winter staple, fitting beautifully (and comfortably) under chunkier woollens and slim-fit jackets. I have looked for modern equivalents for ages - delighted to have found the Kettlewell Silky Roll necks. Yes, they are clingy - but as they will be a layer UNDER woollens that's fine by me - extra fabric would simply be adding bulk. Very happy.- Marion (04/10/2017)
I liked the look and feel of the mock turtle top and in the absence of a choice of more light colours I opted for the silky roll necks in ice blue and pink ice to go with the periwinkle blue and bright navy flounce skirt. So pleased that I did. As soon as they arrived they were ready to go and wore one of them the same evening. They had been packaged really well and didn't need ironing as your body stretches them into shape. The small fits me really well I am size 8/10. I avoid viscose as it loses shape and appearance. Unfortunately it features in many garments from all levels of retailers. Modal I find is a wonderful material almost as luxurious as silk and much easier to care for. I was pleased with my True Red initial purchase for its weight , length and of course comfortable feel and so bought another two, Soft White and Dove Grey . Both colours are 'soft' . Legendary speedy delivery and packaging, as usual, from Kettlewell. Sadly, I had to return these as, although I hate baggy necks, the neck was too tight - and I do not have a big neck, so am somewhat mystified by this! The fabric seemed of good quality but, as another review commented on, is quite thin so that you can see everything through it! Therefore, even if they had fitted at the neck, I feel the price is too high. ordered the fuchsia and the red, and the colours are astounding - beautiful, the fabric soft and silky - but - these tops could only be worn as stand alone pieces if you have no bumps, rolls or lumps! They outlined every unwanted bulge, thin fabric, which showed every seam on a plain-ish bra, and the button and belt loops on my jeans. They are see through. I love the colour and the quality is excellent. My only complaint, as with most clothes these days, is the dishonesty around sizing. I find a size 10 today is equal to a size 12/14 so I usually have to buy a 6/8 to get something the same size as an 'old' size ten. this means I hardly ever buy on-line because sizing is a problem - I don't want to have to send things back all the time just because the sizing is too big. A nice garment, my first Kettlewell purchase. But I'd prefer some cotton in it - the fabric, although nice and silky, feels a bit like elastoplast Good for layering - feels a bit too 'clingy' as a top layer,even though I bought a size larger than I would usually go for.- SB (23/01/2017)
Bought 3 different colours but returned one because the colour didn't suit me. Excellent slim fit which is what I wanted. Also a great length. I'm 5' 5" and a lot of tops are just too short, but this one is a perfect length. The fabric is soft and good quality. It holds its shape and doesn't stretch out or become baggy. I bought a silky roll neck really as a substitute as I'd wanted to purchase another crew neck one, but they were out of my size and colour choice - Idid purchase this in the end of year sale - I am SO pleased I made that decision. As a Summer, I would love to have more colours in this roll neck in Small but the sizes seem to have got bigger. The recent Ice Blue one measured 42cm across the shoulders. Although I have long arms and am 5ft 7ins, the sleeves came down to the my knuckles and length covered my bottom, so much longer than previous ones I've ordered. I like the quality and comfort of this roll neck, but the sleeves are far too long for me. I am 5'6" tall and don't think my arms are exceptionally short, but the sleeves come to my fingertips! Apart from the sleeve length, I'd recommend the top.- Anne (05/12/2016)
A good fit and ideal for layering. However I much preferred the roll necks when they were made out of material which contained 47% cotton, as opposed to the present 95% model and 5% elastane. The former models are definitely superior in quality.- Bernice Taylor (01/12/2016)

Lovely and soft and silky and very comfortable to wear. The neck is not too tight as is often the case with this style of top. I liked the slightly longer length as it makes it useful for layering under a shorter top. I am 5' 4" tall. The colour (tomato red) was ideal for me. I ordered three of these in Bright Navy, Peach, and Pink Coral, and was pleased with the quality and fit (although I have to agree with other reviewers that they are rather long and I'm 5'5"). Also, I would like the neck to be slightly more relaxed but perhaps that will happen after a few washes. The Pink Coral, sadly, had a mark on it in an obvious place and had to be returned and I was disappointed to learn that the colour has been discontinued. Hopefully another Coral shade will be substituted; as a Warm Spring this is one of my best and favourite colours. These are lovely long silky roll necks, I now have 3 of them, a pale grey from last year, and I've now just bought the ice blue and ice pink which look so nice with my summer colouring. I did buy the soft white, but had to return it because it didn't look quite right with my light silver hair colour for some reason. The quality is very nice and they wash up very well. I am very pleased with the silky polo it is very soft and ideal for wearing under crew necks etc during cold weather which was my reason to buy . I have bought several of these and they are excellent, I like a tight fit particularly at the neck and they do their job. They are also nice and long and make you feel warm in wintertime. They look good on their own but if washing in a washing machine, over time they will loose their 'first bloom' and are best under a jumper/cardigan.- Jackie (09/09/2016)

I found this one runs rather small. I usually wear S, but with this one I had to buy M. Tomato is a wonderful rich colour, perfect for dark-haired warm springs. I have just purchased the pink coral in this style. Love the vibrant colour! Previously, I bought the same style in duck egg which is also a lovely colour. I choose the roll top necks for winter so that I can wear them under woollen jumpers. I find that wool next to my skin is irritating. These feel lovely & soft on, the length is good & the colour range gives good choice. Iwould like to see additions though, a jade green and or emerald would be very welcome.also, the neck could be widened a bit at the top so that it sits better. I'm really pleased with the two silky roll necks received yesterday, in dark chocolate and mole. Quality is excellent, colours so useful and difficult to find elsewhere. Although rather long on me (5'2"), especially the sleeves, which are half way down my fingers, I wouldn't hesitate to buy in more colours. The neck is nicely close fitting, and looks even better just scrunched down rather than folded over.
