Make a colour splash in Kettlewellies

Melissa and Jo wearing their favourite Kettlewellies

After wall-to-wall sunshine, few of our UK customers will have escaped the rain showers over the past week or so, which, while admittedly not great for Wimbledon, feels like an opportune moment to launch our brand-new Kettlewellies!

Available in Dandelion, Green Bud, Bright Azalea and Spearmint for each of the four seasonal palettes, these colourful short welly boots are a great pop of colour if you’re heading off to a summer festival, walking the dog or simply pottering around the garden, dead-heading the roses on a dewy morning. I always pull on my green pair when I’m off on my lunchtime walk around Cricket St Thomas and love the little flash of rainbow elastic and colourful tab at the back – it’s amazing how they put a spring in your step.

These Kettlewellies have been a long time in the planning – inspired originally by a conversation I had ten years ago with my photographer brother-in-law, Ben. I’d been telling him on a shoot how I often had to explain our brand name to people who hadn’t heard of us, to which he’d replied: ‘What you need is something like a Kettlewelly; something that people can immediately relate to.’ Roll on a few years and I started noticing that our Colour Club regulars were referring to their fellow Kettlewellies too – and then, when Prue’s stylist Jane told us that Prue would definitely wear a pair if we were to produce them, I knew I had to go for it. The hunt was on to find a supplier.

A meeting with the lovely Frankie from Cocowai, who sources our Cashmere Gauze Stoles from the Himalayas, put me on to Lucas, who was producing footwear out of a factory in Poland and loved the idea of Kettlewellies so much that he was determined to make them work for us, despite a couple of failed early lab dips and much time negotiating the price ( you’d normally need far larger quantities to achieve a reasonable price but we managed to keep price and quantities to a minimum).

And the final result? Well, I have to say I love them. They’re soft, flexible and lightweight, and less clunky than your average short colourful welly. Made of EVA instead of rubber or PVC, they’re resistant to cracks and splits and don’t require lots of breaking in. It’s like slipping on a pair of comfy slippers – albeit a waterproof pair that you can tramp through mud and puddles. Best of all, they’re guaranteed to put a smile on the face of every dog walker you pass!

As a gardener and dog walker I love the introduction of Kettlewellies. Also love that they are made in Poland. The only thing that kept me from buying was the rainbow elastic. Waiting for Bright Navy with a solid Spring elastic like Papaya or Spring Green. Maybe elastic colors of the current Chloe jackets each season. Please keep making this shoe though. I WILL have a pair in the future when the right color combo is offered.

Die sehen wirklich toll aus. Leider nicht meine Größe. Brauche 43.

Honestly? I don't like the bright rainbow insert .... Would have preferred that the stripes had been in seasonal colours. Can see them being useful to keep in the boot of the car for Emmie's park (as opposed to field) walks. I would need to size up for a 37, but a pair of socks would solve that.

Would cow muck wash off and not leave a stain?

Kettlewell Colours: Ooh, we've not had experience of this yet! We think that as long as it is washed off straight away and not left to dry, they should be OK?

Some dark colours please. Navy, purple… Don’t like the idea of the pretty light colours getting wet and dirty.

Viki Packman on Jul 23, 2023 3:03 PM

Will you be doing larger sizes? I need size 43.

Ann Botley on Jul 23, 2023 2:07 PM

Look great love the colours.

Lovely wellies in gorgeous colours…no surprise there! Moshulu do very similar but rrp £45. I suppose the higher KW cost is because of ordering smaller numbers? I do prefer the KW lack of heel though and am sure will last hopefully decades! KW are to be applauded for using traceable ethical suppliers but it does make for KW being a luxury buy for low income families, but worth saving up for!

Bought some from Moshulu in Devon in June! Great idea though.

Brilliant idea!

I love these ankle wellies and have a few questions and a suggestion.........

How wide are they as I have wide feet and often find wellies too narrow.

Also what is your advice re socks?

Do we go up a size for thick socks or are they suitable for normal socks?

I can see a great opportunity to upsell with an offer for ankle warmers and gloves with Turtle Dove esp in the Autumn/Winter/Xmas gifts!!

So happy to see your business flourishing 🙌 💕 💕

Aloha from Hawaii! Believe it or not we have been getting lots of rain here as well. I’ve been hankering after a pair of colorful rain boots, and these look like they might fit the ticket. I’m vegan, though, so wanted to check whether the cute little tag that says “Kettlewellie” is made from leather or some other material.

Kettlewell Colours: Hi Raina the tag is not leather, it is made from eco-leather which is 100% PU (polyurethane).
