Ratings & reviews
Write a reviewThis is a lovely dress, colour and quality of material great. However it didn't really suit my style as the top of dress fitted really well but was too tight on hips and thighs for me. Think LL would be too large on the top.
This is such a good dress! It goes below the knee and I fold it a little at the waist as other reviewers have said. I use a very narrow brown belt which sets it off, and a chloe wrap in toffee. Excellent. Easy to wear and flattering. I bought at full price and still pleased because I am regularly wearing it. I tried the emerald green and it looked awful - it said it was suitable for autumn, but definitely not for me so sent back.
I didn’t think I would be able to wear this dress as I hate anything tight around my abdomen. However, as with many Kettlewell items I was swayed by the colours! I had also watched a live video where Jo showed how you can “fold” it at the waist which appealed to me. Initially I ordered it in hibiscus and sized up to medium and LOVED it! Folding it had a surprisingly flattering effect on my petite proportions and made the length perfect without having it shortened. So win win! I wore it for a wedding, belted and under a cream jacket. For a casual dress it was astonishingly smart! ( Lots of exclamation marks!) I liked it so much I ordered the lime and love that too. I love the simple minimalist lines. They both coordinate with many of my other items ( short tie wraps in particular) which is great for me as I prefer to wear them as a base layer. I’m not usually a dress person, jeans are my staple, but these are definitely the best I’ve ever bought! I’ve now bought hibiscus and lime willow scarves which add another dimension.
The Romily dress has a stunning color, but unfortunately, it’s not for me. The fabric is far too thick for a summer dress, which makes it feel uncomfortable in warm weather. I usually wear a size S, but after reading reviews mentioning the stretchiness of the fabric, I decided to size up to a medium since I don’t like tight-fitting clothes. The medium, however, didn’t fit well in some areas, so an S would have been a better choice. Despite that, I won’t be reordering due to the thickness of the material, which I personally don’t find pleasant to wear. As for the length, I have slightly longer legs, and the dress hit me right at the knee. I would have preferred it to be either a bit shorter or longer for a more flattering look. Overall, while the color is beautiful, the fabric and fit weren’t quite right for me.
I bought this on sale and really glad i did. It fits gorgeously and the colour is really striking. It fits true to size, has a great amount of stretch but also structure with the ribbing so it's great for really supportive. As a petite person it's really long, so will have to be altered to above the knee to be more flattering for my height. Would love a petite/ short option so more of the dresses work without altering in the future. I'd love to see more colours of this too as will definitely buy more. It's versatile and works with denim jackets for casual and dressed up with heeled boots.
Wow. Thank you Jo for telling us how to wear this dress. Thank you to Heather at the Colour studio for recommending it to me. One of my best ever Kettlewell purchases. I’ve worn it as a summer dress, with very few accessories and with a slip, cardigan or wrap and boots on cooler days. It is very versatile. The blue goes with a lot of my existing Kettlewell spring palette making styling easy and different every time. It comes up a bit small on the hips if you are pear shaped so I sized up to a large. Normally I’m a medium in everything I buy from Kettlewell. Sizing up did not make the top look too big. If you like fitted dresses I’d highly recommend this one.
My measurements are exactly those for the medium but it was way too tight so I ordered the dress in large. The colours, a greenish blue and a dark amethyst, were great for a salt and pepper haired summer. The neckline was a bit higher and narrower than I like but the dress could have been very useful. The fit for the large was ok but the reason I am returning them is that they wrinkle really badly and I wanted the dresses for travel. Both dresses looked fine when I was standing, but if I sat for a few minutes, the creases meant they lost all the chic they had. Reluctantly, I am returning them.
FABULOUS - a super fabric which holds its shape really well. I feel wonderful in the Romily although in a couple of colours I may have sneakily resorted to a little shapewear….fit is true to size. It dresses up beautifully with a belt, necklace, scarf, STW, short cascade or Rachel jacket. It is equally casual with trainers or flat sandals and full on glam with a heel. I now have three to enjoy. At 5ft 6” it sits below the knee.
As soon as I returned my first romily dress I knew I had made a mistake! I reordered in two spring colours and kept both. I have been wearing them as a mainstay of my wardrobe ever since! With this untypical seasonal summer they have been excellent. So many ways to style them. See Jo's video. The ribbing material is comfortable and the style skims. I am a size12/14 and went for the large. The dresses are washing well and not stretching. Maybe the most versatile garment I have purchased from kettlewell (and there have been a few,!)
I really like the ribbed fabric, which is quite thick and definitely holds you in a bit. It's a very versatile dress as you can wear it on its own or with wraps, jackets, blouses and even T-shirts over the top. It's very easy to care for and keeps its shape well. I can move easily in this dress and there are no zips or buttons to worry about. I love the racer back. I'm 165cm and it covers my knees. I love bright navy so this is a winner for me. Am quite tempted by the other spring colours especially the hibiscus.
