Summer's magic colour

I expect to find choosing a Summer colour simple, but actually I found it the hardest of all four seasons. It feels like there is so much variation within the palette, that finding a colour that suits a blonde, blue-eyed, fair skinned Summer and also works for the deepest skin tones and brown-black eyes also found among Summers was almost impossible.

Eventually I settled on a classic soft, smoky Summer shade, which carries a bit of depth but doesn’t feel too severe for even the fairest Summers. Wine Blush is a beautiful rosy, smoky shade, which captures all the essence of the Summer palette in a single colour.

And, like the magic colours for the other palettes, it is hugely versatile. It plays just as nicely with the less cool Rose Browns and Rose Taupes of the palette as with deeper, cooler Sultry Navy and French Blue.

Style notes: Paired with Summer’s browns and teals, Wine Blush takes on a less cool toned hue, feeling almost autumnal in its rich blend of colours.

Style notes: Keep the colours light and fresh and let your magic colour do the talking for a simple, crisp and classic look that still makes an impression.

Style notes: Opt for deep, rich shades from your palette for an elegant look that loses no impact for being in the soft, smoky shades of Summer. I’ve chosen a dark colour Cashmere Gauze Stole, but you could add lightness by opting for Silver Blue instead.

A final note on magic colours

You can see how much the one magic colour I’ve chosen works with the full range of the Summer palette, but the truth is that almost any colour in your palette can work well for you when it’s styled in the right way. So if you’re not keen on pink, why not try another almost-universal Summer shade? My favourites are Lavender, True Blue and French Grey, but why not take the time to discover your ultimate magic colour?
