I bought the Emerald ( winter season colour) as a Blue Spring primarily to wear with my new Matilda Emerald / Fuschia culottes and to coordinate with many other existing items in my wardrobe .Delighted with the fit, style and colour in size M and love the soft rounded square neckline with the broader straps and the double fronted fabric which gives a sleek flattering look to any outfit. Just wish I could find an Emerald weekend skirt or a pair of Emerald green culottes to make a coordinated outfit that looks like a dress or a jumpsuit.- Pat (11/03/2024)

Disappointing. I bought two of these tops 18 months or so ago and loved them and got another two in different colours. The quality of the fabric is now disappointing. I loved the fact I could wear any bra due to the straps and the double layer of fabric on the front. This colour top is pretty transparent and the fabric on the back is very very thin. I am way less comfortable wearing this top which is a shame. It will be an underneath top moving forward sadly. I have always trusted Kettlewell for colourful quality clothing - this has influenced my decision whether to buy again.- Suzanne (15/02/2024)

This is my first square vest and I really love the depth of the colour and the soft feel of the material. The material is a wonderful quality that washes well and requires minimal ironing. The vest is a bit pricey but I should get a good wear out of it.- Tash (05/01/2024)

I bought a few of these when I first dicovered Kettlewell, but I bought too big a size, the neck was baggy and I gave them away. I've now found my perfect size in this style, XS, which is perfect for me, size 8-10 and 5'2". I'm wearing it now as an extra layer, but I know I'll wear it more in the warm weather as the colour, Brick Red, is so good on me. I love it, but I've also bought a couple of the two way tops, which I love even more. How about making this two way, with one side a scoop neck?- Linda (15/12/2023)

This is my third soft square vest and I love them as a layer, especially under sweaters that I wear open. The double layer in the front provides structure, no bra straps can be seen and being 5’3”, I often find that shirts dip too low in the chest showing cleavage, and this does not. I can wear it in professional settings and casual settings. In the summer, I will be wearing this lovely flamingo pink one alone too! One of my first purchases from Kettlewell. It took me a couple of tries to find the right size in these, as they are very fitted. I ended up with the Medium (I'm somewhere between a small and medium, I think). I liked the first one so much I bought 3 more colors. These are wonderful basics with an unusual and flattering neckline that works really well under my Chloe jacket. Love the drape-y fabric and the double-layered front. So… 12th purchase at Kettlewell… lovely clothes. My last purchase included the dark ginger and grey teal soft square vest… unfortunately after I washed both garments I found their fabric content was very different than the previous ones I’ve purchased. These only have 3% elastine versus 6%, 0 cotton, 0 modal and are mostly viscose. They wear and feel very differently. These might work for some but beware they are VERY different, lighter weight fabric and don’t nearly feel as finished to me.- Mara (28/10/2023)

SIZE: Small COLOUR: Periwinkle
I have this top in both the XS and S. I have the Bluebell and love the color. (I tried choosing that as the color I ordered in my review, but its not even listed as a option anymore) I've determined after purchasing a bunch of Kettlewell items that I am pretty much right smack in between the two sizes -which is not helpful and a guessing game every time I purchase something. Anyway, the XS is a bit too snug around my midsection/back- but works if I'm wearing it under something like a blazer or jacket, where I only want the top part of it to show. The S works better around the middle, because its slightly looser, then then I find there is a little bit of gaping around the armpit area, and its almost like the shoulder straps need to be taken up a bit. Lastly, I had to return the first one these that I bought because there were these very faint white spots on it. Most people may not seem them, but they were evident to me. I'm not sure what that's about and hope it was just a fluke. For reference I am 5'3, 118 lbs. and have a small frame (narrow shoulders and short waisted). I would like to buy a few more, but am struggling about which size to order!!- Susan (05/10/2023)

My first Soft Square Vest. I bought it to go under a periwinkle lacey cardigan. Unfortunately the "periwinkle" colours are completely different. The KW periwinkle is more blue. I also found - on me - that the armholes gaped a bit. But, having said that, it is well made and the fabric feels nice. Was first hesitant, the L was gaping so I gave the M a new chance. Very pleased. The rounded corners soften the look, the straight line breaks off a long torso nicely. Hoping for similar fit in wide deep scoops and various sleeve versions as well. I am an hourglass with a bust. Great with the rushing and dubble fabric for sweatpants and my old jeans with less than 12 inch rise before I throw them out. Less gaping and pulling, thank God. I love the spring orange reds. I was so happy to find the persimmon color even though this one is not a true spring color, slightly too cold and intense for my skin tone it works. I imagine it will age beautifully from the sun into a softer coral over time. Wore it with my short cascade wrap yesterday (stone colored) and clear blue jeans. Beautiful contrasts. This is my 10th Soft Square Vest! I love the neckline and the double layer makes the top feel substantial. Since I am petite (5'0"), I have my tailor shorten the straps to prevent my bra from peeking out. SIZE: Small COLOUR: French Grey
I don’t normally go for square necklines but wanted something to give a tidy look and contrasting colour under a deep V neck line. The fabric is lovely and it is a snug fit in most places but for me it is not as tight across the neck line as I had hoped. I am a curvy 10 so ordered the small and have kept it but I now think the XS might have been better because of some gaping at neck - or perhaps I should go for a cami even though I like the broad shoulder straps of this one.- Barbara (19/07/2023)

Soft square neck vest. This is made from lovely soft material, the fit is good, not too loose and it has double thickness material at the front. This makes it feel like a a quality top not a flimsy summer vest you might wear to the beach. Quite dressy. Would go under a smart jacket quite happily. I wasn't sure about the colour for me, Chinese Blue, but I am keeping it because I have a lot of things it will mix and match with. I love square necked tops, they are flattering for my shape/neck. I tried the square neck vest in a deep purple colour, and liked it so much, I bought the pink. I am a Winter. The front of the vest has a double layer of soft material & is very flattering. I bought the medium as wanted it to fit snugly under jackets. I've just added a neutral to my colourful collection of soft square vests. It's a very useful style and works well under a v-neck cardigan as well as worn alone. I really like the double front and wide straps which cover my bra, unlike some of the other Kettlewell styles. Just added another 2 soft square vests to my collection - in rosewood and grey teal. I just love these tops - the double front gives them a beautiful fit without being over-clingy, and the soft square neck enhances my bust without bulk or being too low (I am 4' 11", size 10 neat hourglass, Autumn Leaf). I love these vests and have one in most of my autumn colours, but I am disappointed in this cream one. The fabric seems thinner and less firm than my previous ones and very see-through especially at the back where it is single thickness. I debated whether or not to return it, but I really needed a cream top to wear under a specific jacket, so I kept it in the end, but I am not entirely happy with it.- Sheila (17/06/2023)

I watched one of the Kettlewell video's and saw the Indigo square neck top. It looked gorgeous in the video so searched it out. In truth, had I not watched the video, I'm not sure that I wouId have noticed the indigo as online it looked black, whereas in fact it is a beautiful rich purple-ly shade. I bought it & am thrilled. I wear the Indigo square vest under the purple Rachel jacket, with white jeans (I'm a Winter). Looks lovely. Really pleased with the quality, very flattering neckline and broad straps to hide what's underneath. It has 2 layers to the front of the top, so is a slightly heavier weight, but in so doing, is a really neat fit. I like it so much that I have also bought the winter pink one too for my hols. Lovely shade of blue that I liked very much and wanted to have in my wardrobe. The combination of a body hugging style and the soft, clingy material made this vest a no for me. I returned it. Seeing Jo wearing a soft square vest under a jacket on the Friday live looking so smart I decided to give them a try. I am a cowl or scoop person normally and was just worried that the outline would be too square. It isn't. The rounded edges make all the difference. I like the wide shoulders and the smooth "darcy" double front. As many of Kettlewell's clever designs the soft square vest can be either summer holiday friendly or extremely polished under a jacket. I’ve got a few of these. I’m a uk 14 and buy large. They always look neat under jackets and the shoulders are wide enough to comfortably cover bra straps. Being 60+ this is a much better look for me than a strappy vest top. The material is quite thick and seems to hold me in which is a bonus. I bought black to go with a black and white skirt and it looks very elegant. Also, I am tall and struggle with fit but these are ok on me. Tried just about every white shirt Kettlewell has, and all but this item were just too see through. Something I hope to see rectified in the near future with thicker materials for white and light tops in particular. Very glad to have found this tank top style. Really wish the whole thing was double lined honestly, as the front is smart, neat and very concealing. The stretch viscose fabric is one of my favorites that Kettlewell carries. These vests are a basic in my wardrobe ..... I have used them as a vest lining under sweaters, a neat top under a smart jacket, over my swimsuit, and under wraps. This time, following a recent blog, I opted for one to match a maxi skirt with a metallic belt. Lovely look! I am a Size 6/8 but busty and always go for a Small. The Soft Square Vest is my favourite Kettlewell top and I have it in quite a few colours. The neckline is very flattering for a curvy figure and the double layer hide a multitude of tummy sins. My latest purchase was in Red Earth. It is the most gorgeous autumn colour - not too red or orange. Love this style! I hadn't tried it before but I'm so glad I did. I have purchased bluebell and heather pink after seeing how well the grey teal fit. The neckline is not too low even though I am petite and the straps are wide enough to cover bra straps. I usually wear a small in KW clothes and the small was perfect fit. It can be worn on it's own with shorts or a skirt and pairs nicely with the Elle cardigan for cooler weather. The grey teal color is fabulous!! I love these tops! I wear them in so many ways. In the summer, I wear them alone with a pair of shorts, skirt or pants. They also look great under a sweater or jacket. Lately, I've been wearing them to my gym with leggings, since they are cool and don't let my bra straps show. I'm between an XS and small in KW tops. I get a size small in this style, as it's fitted. So many gorgeous colors to choose from! I chose Lemon Yellow, which happens to be one of the first yellows that I have found that looks fabulous with my bright winter palette. I am really pleased with my purchase. The size M and the colour dark amethyst are both perfect. The quality is good, as are my other tops from Kettlewell. This is the first square neck and sleeveless I have purchased as my others are crew and short sleeves but as it was for holiday in a hot country I decided to try something different and glad I did. Oddly the drop down box does not have the colur mole, I have never bought that colour before, a risk for me, as was the style, happy with both. Possibly a little on the expensive size. I was unsure about ordering a square neck top on several levels, mostly would I look too busty in it (30FF), could I still get away with sleeveless (I'm 65)? So glad I went for it. I have found my go-to summer top. The square neck is so soft and beautifully fitting, the double-layer front gives it structure without weight, and although sleeveless it completely covers my bra, both the straps and at the sides, so I feel completely confident. This is one of those things Kettlewell do best, a quality basic. It is well-made and fits beautifully, with the double front providing that smooth finish and lifting the garment from just a vest to a proper top. I feel mine looks good under a light jacket like the Rachel or Chloe but also with the short cascade wrap. The lemonade colour is beautiful for me as a spring. It goes with so many of my colours. Lovely vest top, well made and in a beautiful colour. I like the double layer front for warmth and because it helps the vest to keep its shape. I have bought several of these tops in different colours and I wear them in the winter over a long-sleeved top with a cardigan and in the summer on their own. They last well without the colour fading. My only problem is with the length as I am just 5' tall and I have to take up almost everything I buy. I don't actually have much in my wardrobe in yellow (Lemonade) but it is just lovely - it's just bright enough and I've received so many compliments when wearing it. I've also bough the vest in Lilac Grey and it goes with so many of my other Kettlewell purchases. Fabulous fit too - the vest has wider shoulder straps and the material is very flattering. I like the wide shoulder straps too, means I can wear a bra which is not possible with the camisole, strapless bras are not the best on those better endowed! The square vest top is soft, stretchy and of of a heavier weight than other cheaper vest tops. It is very comfortable to wear and hides any bra straps. Beautiful colour that will go under a range of tops with fronts that are lower than I would like or shirts that I can leave open. If worn on its own it has wide should straps that cover up bra straps. The material is more substantial than most other vests that I have and being double fronted is a bonus. Although the square neckline is not as flattering on me as the Sleeveless V, this is a high quality, versatile basic that looks particularly good under a jacket and which I’m sure I’ll find plenty of opportunities to enjoy wearing. I’m between sizes but in both these styles, choose to size up to ensure a fit that skims rather than clings over my bust. As with all of my previous Kettlewell purchases, I love these basic tops that come in such gorgeous colors. This is the first time I've gotten the Soft Square Vest, and I did find that it seemed to run small on me. I've previously gotten the XS in the Darcey Scoop and the Square Neck Longsleeve. All 3 styles say "semi-fitted," but this vest (tank) is definitely fitted on me. In retrospect, I might have been better off with a Small, as this fits tighter in the armholes and is tighter across my waist and hemline. I am 100lbs and small-busted. (I’m usually a 10, bust 32C, but with a long back!) It is a lovely top, beautifully soft against your skin, really good quality with a double layer around the bust making it quite smart as well. But the medium really was too big on me, gaping round the arm holes & too much fabric everywhere. I’ve given up on buying cheap t shirts which shrink in the wash, don’t hold their colour and always end up in the bin. The beauty of this top is the double lining in the front. I was unsure about purchasing this top because I am petite and was afraid the neckline might be too low. Mulberry is gorgeous and since no other items this season were offered in this color, I decided to buy it. The top just covered the top of my bra but as I moved throughout the day, my bra kept peeking out from the top; luckily I was working from home so there was no one else to witness this except for my husband! When I washed it, I put it in the dryer on medium heat and it shrunk just enough where my bra doesn't poke out anymore! When lockdown eases up, I might have my tailor shorten the straps by about another 1/2 inch. The fit and fabric are perfect. One of my all-time favourite Kettlewell styles! I have many of these in a variety of Spring colours. The double front makes them look VERY neat, and the slim fit and the length are IDEAL to pair with full, swishy skirts. I haven't been able to find a good alternative anywhere else, so I hope Kettlewell goes on producing these forever. And now that it XS sizing is available, I don't even have to take these tops to my seamstress to make them more narrow. A very good style through and through. I love it!!! I just wish it was made in cotton/modal mix instead of viscose which doesn't iron well. I bought this in soft white as I found the Betty cowl neck was too see-through in soft white for my liking. I'm size 8-10 and size small fits perfectly, and I like the double layer at the front which does cover my modesty. I just wish there was a scoop neck in the sleeveless double front range. I'm a CMB neat hourglass shape and although this neckline is a softened square it's still definitely a square. I love these vests which are so much better and smarter than anything I've seen elsewhere but work just as well when worn casually. The double layer at the front stops these tops from being see through so no worries when buying lighter colours. Another Kettlewell top that I am absolutely OBSESSED with!! The material is so soft and form flattering with just enough stretch. I also love that the front of the top is double paneled but does not make the wearer look heavier than they are. The square cut is such a sophisticated look and is incredibly popular right now in fashion, however, it's been difficult to find a square cut top in my color palette (Soft Summer). I like to wear it under my Kettlewell 'Short Cascade Wrap' and know that when it becomes warmer I'll be able to wear it alone. Please, please, please Kettlewell make the XS in more colors! Regarding color analysis--I believe I am a 'soft summer' aka a 'toned summer' aka a 'summer-autumn'. Because of this I have only bought colors that both work for a summer as well as an autumn and have found the Kingfisher color to be perfect! I bought a smaller size and this has solved the problem as the front is higher and sits better under V necks. The high back also gives a smoother finish at the back than a camisole. I usually don’t go for sleeveless tops but in the summer I put up with showing flabby arms. This is a good fit in a large size although large is normally too big for me in other makes. I bought 4 of these in size L (I'm a 12-14) after being unable to find anything in the High Street in such lovely colours or with a similar fit. The fabric is soft and washes and irons well. It is fitted without being tight or clingy. Looks smart enough to wear formally but is also great for casual wear. Perfect length for skirts, unlike others sold elsewhere, and equally good to wear with trousers and shorts. I have not bought from Kettlewell before - but so far I am very pleased with this square neck top. The LL fits my size 16/18 figure well without being too clingy. The wide shoulder straps cover bra straps and I like the deepish neckline which is a nice shape and provides a good frame for interesting jewellery. The warm white colour is much more flattering than ordinary white on my autumn colouring. Have yet to wash the garment and wonder if the fabric will "bobble" - but if not I will certainly buy more of these tops. The quality of this garment was very good. I did return it as my proportions are such that I have to order a larger size for my hips which made it too large across the bust. Love this top, got the medium - I am a good 12. I think it fits really well and the slight stretch is very flattering. It would be very smart for work wear but I am loving it with shorts for summer. This is a lovely smart top. The double layers allow the material to fall without clinging. I have a large bust and have bought the item in large and medium. There is a little gaping with the large size and need to pull up to cover bra sometimes but still smart. The smaller size is a little neat but under a shirt it's fine and has the popping colour I wanted. Packs well if rolled up. Good coverage in the sun. All round definitely good value. Love these sleeveless vests. I used to buy them for everyday use but now buy them mainly as vests to go with pj bottoms. They get washed loads and always keep their shape and never seem to shrink. I love the square vests I now have several in different colours. They are very well made and double layered so no embarrassing cold moments. Very comfortable I am a 16 nearly 18 so LL is perfect. I wish they did them in a few more colours though. I do think they are expensive though for sleeveless tops which is what stops me buying lots more. A wardrobe staple in my opinion! I bought more of these tops as I wear them continuously throughout the year - they are great to wear on their own in the warmer months but can also be used as an "undergarment" when the temperature drops a bit. As I travel a lot this makes it an extremely useful item to pack! Bought a new one recently in Shaded Spruce together with a matching wrap.For the first time in ages I've dropped a size and the lower size fits perfectly. Gorgeous, ethereal colour! I have these vests in several colours but will now have to re-stock in my new sizing as they are such a versatile and essential part of my wardrobe! Love the flattering double - fronted panel and soft square neckline. Loads of colours to choose from, but I still yearn for more: burgundy, claret red, burnt orange....? The shape is wonderfully flattering, and possibly because it is sleeveless, I don't have the problem with the shoulders being too wide that I have in the other Kettlewell styles. So many thanks to the person who said that this was more of a cream. I bought it on that basis & it is true. It is a soft pale cream which is precisely what I wanted. The style fits true to size, is comfortable, washes exceptionally well & the double front panel means that if you goof & put on a somewhat too lacy bra you do not display it to the world. It is a perfect addition to my summer wardrobe - initially I purchased fuchsia and now I also have lobelia & red and they look great with cropped white jeans. I can imagine wearing them under a midi cascade wrap in the cooler seasons too. The quality is excellent and they wash extremely well. A very nice, useful summer/cross-over top. Similar in cut and sizing to the 3/4 and 1/2 sleeve square necked tops that you've done for ages. Good coverage/fit around the armholes and neck and just so much more wearable for me than a v strappy top. The fuschia is a lovely *bright* pink - very definitely a winter colour. BUT why oh why, Kettlewell, so many dark colours in what is an obvious choice for a summer top. I'd love this in all my ice colours. A great colour and fit. True to size. Double lining in the front is ideal. The squarer neckline is flattering. A different cut to ones I have had before, slightly longer and less structured. At the moment the front is rolling slightly forwards so i will need to see how it wears over time. Got this as a stand alone transitional piece and to go with the ruche skirt to look like a dress, with success! Double layer quality is a nice feature, just the right length and size for me. I'm 5ft 8 busty size 14, so got the large. Absolutely have to wear a bra, so the wide straps are essential. (Buy my strappy tops from Bravissimo-don't do bra straps with spaghetti straps-looks terrible) . Will add more colours to my collection ASAP! Had previously tried the 3 quarter sleeve version of this top which i found clingy on lumps and bumps and big around the shoulders in a medium. So I ruled it out as a standalone top. However based on reviews I tried this sleeveless version under a suit jacket.. in a small. WOW just perfect and gives a lovely neckline and flash of colour underneath a classic suit. Delighted with this.. Still not sure if its a standalone top as its clingly.. would be amazing if the inside layer went all the way round to really hold in lumps and bumps.- GD (15/02/2017)
This was my first purchase from Kettlewell, but won't be my last. I "think" I am a winter (colour consultation in April when I return to the UK briefly). The square neck vest is so soft, and I was pleasantly surprised by the double fabric at the front to hide bra lines etc, and the indigo colour is lovely, not dull, not purple. I decided to try this style as an exchange item. I've now purchased three more. Really quite flattering and tapering for a bigger busted person so this was instantly a winner. The neckline was a very pleasant surprise and should be considered if you are self-conscious about your bosom. Well worth trying. Now need to be alert for Out of Stock colours coming back into stock. I now have at least 4 of these square neckline tops , I love the colours, mostly darker winter colours, but have a pale blue which I love under darker wraps. they wash well and look as good as new even after a years wear, they can be worn all year under a wool or cotton wrap. Much more than just a top. I get complimented. It dresses up or down with equal ease. The lining at the front makes it discreet. I am between 12 and 14 and chose Large and it's fits well...little on the generous side. The colours (I've two now) are just as shown. Very useful 'basic' top that is far from basic. Lovely material and I love the fact that the front is a double layer. I now have several as I can't find anything similar in the choice of colours. My expectations after my last wonderful purchase of a soft long sleeved top were dashed by the Square neck soft verse; infact had to send it back & cancel 2 others ordered. Lovely colour but something was very wrong with the shape as the body was square too, measuring 41,inches under the arm & at the hip level. So the armhole was gaping & the hips too tight - certainly not an XL size. Maybe something went wrong withe measurements of this batch? I bought these tops in two colours and like the shape very much,to wear under shrugs and wraps. Really well fitting and fabric is good. However, when I decided to rear one of them without a shrug, I noticed that the join at the shoulder seam had a 'bump, as if there was untrimmed fabric at the neck edge, so he shoulders don't really match. I bought this lovely smart vest in chocolate and blackberry to go with some Kettlewell skirts I already own. The blackberry goes well with the Roma skirt in the purple colourway. It makes a smart outfit. The chocolate is a good wardrobe staple for me. Good quality and double fronted so smart enough if its very hot and you need to take your jacket off.
