So very disappointed in the blue white Breton too. I’d hoped to find a replacement for one I bought a few years ago which has lost its shape in the neck. When my new one arrived I was dismayed with the sizing, the length and the cut and the stripe which were very different to the one I loved. The stripe is wider, the top significantly longer and the large one purchased last time is SMALLER than the medium one I have just ordered. Please can you iron out these issues so that we can replace loved items when they wear out with like for like.- Elinor (04/04/2024)

I love this top. I usually wear a size 6 or 8 and bought the XS. I think it's quite expensive, but it is well made and to me it's worth it as its the sort of top I'll wear a lot throughout the year. It's a relaxed fit, but because of the weight of the fabric it drapes nicely rather than looking bulky. The fabric is good quality, it's a smooth soft cotton which means if you tuck it in it drapes nicely over the top of your trousers. The 3/4 sleeves are elegant, and as I'm 5'2" it means they are not too long for me as long sleeved tops often are. I have bought both the current Spring colourways, and I think there is something about the contast between the stripes that is really flattering. I'm hoping there will be a short sleeved version!- SR (06/03/2024)

I usually go for a size LL but this came a bit too snug for my taste, so I recommend to size up if you prefer a shirt to be a bit relaxed and not too fitted. I am tall with 5'11 and top is long enough to reach to my hip bone, so that is good. 3/4 sleeves are very nice. The LL I will send back and will try the XL now.- Eva (01/03/2024)

I've been steering clear of so many tops because of the clinging feel and too wide shoulders, but this lovely top is very flattering, fits on the shoulders and just loose enough without standing out from the body. An excellent fit in L for my size 15! Also a good length - not way too long as I have found some KW to be on me! There was only the white and navy stripe available in my season, but I'm more than happy with it! I think I shall be wearing t a lot!- Jill (28/02/2024)

This was far more green than the photo suggested which worked perfectly. I do wish that the mix was less elastic as it gives a rather cheap sport feel to the fabric. However, this was exactly what I needed to pull a white jean and jacket together with lime accessories. Would not have paid full price for this given fabric.- Olwen (21/01/2023)

I now have every Spring color of this Breton Stripe, so I think you could say I LOVE them. I am a US size 10-12 on top and the size L fits perfectly. I love the length (I'm 5'7") which is perfect. I do not like long tunic styles and am so happy that most of KW tops are not.- Ann (16/08/2022)

I love the colour Eucalyptus this year although I was worried how well it would tone with other Summer colours in my wardrobe. This top goes well with my 'sage' jeans and cream jeans and I've just found a bright pink jacket I hadn't worn for years makes a super colour pop toning with a matching belt. The boat neck does slip a bit but the material feels really soft and length is brilliant out as well as looking fine tucked in.- Ruth Elizabeth (05/08/2022)

Bought the Cinnamon and Cream Breton Size M as normally a size 12. Brilliant relaxed fit, especially like the fit as no lumps and bumps showing. Lightweight material and washes well. Nice change of colour and with boat neckline and 3/4 sleeves what’s not to like. Decided to try out watermelon as I'm sceptical about it as a summer colour (despite my having glasses with frames in similar colour). As a solid block in the Hannah it didn't do much for me But softened by the Breton's white stripe I decided to keep it for a bit of a change. Looks fine (if a bit Tom-the- Cabin Boy!) worn with my whitecotton knickerbockers (found in suitably capacious size in a Bayreuth dept store) , plus with the glasses it looked youthful & summery. This is my favourite style of all the KW tops because of its classic styling. I have difficulties with KW's sizing because I am between S and XS. I am petite but a bit busty, so if I go with the XS to fit in length and shoulders, it's too tight across the bust. However, the size small Breton fits like a dream all over - not too tight but still nicely shaped. Lover the boat neck and 3/4 sleeves.- Lori (20/06/2022)

Just love this three quarters sleeve length t shirt in both the Aqua and the Neon green. Fits perfectly ( Small) has some stretch in it and so comfortable and easy to wear. I wore my striped top for the first time since I had it shortened. Love the fabric and weight of the fabric. The cinnamon & cream color is a lovely neutral. However I find the boat neckline too straight for me, as it wrinkled diagonally down my chest when wearing it. I just love this top! I am a Bright Spring and first bought the aqua & Soft White as I love all things turquoise. I am 5’ 5” and wear size 12/14 and this top, in medium, fitted perfectly. The fabric is soft and, needing a 3/4 sleeve, has a light feel to it. I also find the neckline more flattering as I get older. Because I was so pleased with it, I have now bought the Watermelon and Soft White. This top is something I will look out for in the future.- Gill (06/05/2022)

I’m a summer & already own & love last summer’s striped Breton. I didn’t think I needed another until I was able to try on this season’s eucalyptus/soft white version during my visit to KW HQ in February. It was love at first (second?) try so as soon as the new season was launched, it was in my basket! I bought my usual size small (I’m a UK slim 10) & it’s the perfect fit for me, comfortably, but not too, loose. The cotton fabric is lovely & soft & feels so nice to wear. It is the perfect top for these in between days - neither too hot nor too cool - & works brilliantly with your denim, pinks (looks really great with my orchid Erin!), blues & also with a couple of pairs of faded taupe/grey green cropped chinos. What a surprise this lovely top was! I already have last year’s multi striped Breton in the summer colourway (Pretty Pink Stripe) & love it & wasn’t really planning on buying another……..but then I was one of the lucky Kettlewell competition winners & spent a day at their HQ in Somerset. There I had the opportunity to try on some the new season’s styles & randomly picked this new seasons striped top to try on with both the Erin jacket in orchid & the Roxy jacket in clover. And I just loved it! And got some very affirming compliments from the KW team too! The colours are soft white & eucalyptus, a lovely calm, neutral yet fresh combination, which pairs perfectly with pinks, berry colours, blues & lavender/violet/mauve. The cotton jersey is beautifully soft & feels so nice on. I ordered my usual KW size small (I’m a slim size 10, 5’7”, lean hourglass!) & it is a good fit for me - not tight across my shoulders, long enough to wear tucked in or with a half tuck, but short enough to wear untucked. I absolutely love the aqua stripe in this but wish it was available in the long pima! The LL fits fairly well in the body, I definitely prefer longer tops, but the front of the neck gapes. I bought this as a smaller size replacement for one of my earliest and much-loved Kettlewell purchases which despite frequent washing has stubbornly refused to shrink as I’ve lost weight! In fact, it still looks as good as new! As it is such a perfect design and for me, a real wardrobe hero, I was delighted to see it back! Size wise, I chose L (rather than an M) as I have quite broad shoulders and bust measurement wise sit on the cusp of an L/LL (with size S/M hips and waist). I now have two of these Bretons, in canary yellow stripe and cobalt stripe. They are awesome for my style (scruffy Minimalist Adventurer, making me look neat, and zippy with so little effort. These are going to be extremely versatile and will dress up once I have the right jacket or wrap, which I didn't expect. The material is substantial and hides my waist line bulges. I was worried the style would make me look more top heavy than I am, at 5'3', 180 lbs. and a 42D bust, but this is a very slimming cut. My 4th Breton top. More useful than a simple T shirt. Fitted but not clingy, side slits and the boatneck is more interesting than a crew or scoop neck. I am 5ft 4”, a short waisted pear, large 10/small 12 for tops. How a top sits on the upper hip is crucial. The Breton is excellent for the neck shape, fit on the shoulders and 3/4 sleeves. The side splits are so helpful. It catches very, very slightly across the back along the upper hip. If I had another inch or two in body length it would be off the scale perfection. I love the relaxed fit, soft, slightly stretchy fabric and of course, colour of these Breton tops - this is my 3rd! The quality is superb and for the cooler weather they are great layered under a Chloe Jacket, wrap or similar. They wash beautifully (don't need ironing!) and are the usual high quality I have come to appreciate from Kettlewell. I am usually a size 16, 5.4' and fairly short waisted so appreciate that they are not too long and have 3/4 length sleeves. Still working on mastering the 'Jo tuck!'- Alison (25/09/2020)

Lovely fabric, colour and design. But for me the sleeves were a little too baggy to look sleek and the boat-like neck showed by bra straps so I had to take the sleeves in a centimetre and stitch the shoulder seams for a better fit. Now looks fab, but a shame I had to do this to what’s in effect quite a pricy (albeit smart!) T shirt to make it look great.- Lis (19/06/2020)

Lovely top. Ordered a medium, because the colour was out of stock in a small, my usual size. Also got another single colour Breton top in a small, and a Multi coloured stripe in a small. The medium single colour was only a tiny bit bigger than the Multi coloured small, and the single colour small was too tight. So sizes a bit out of kilter. This top is lovely. I can wear it as a casual top with jeans and trainers, or under a blazer for work, or with an infinity scarf so it’s really versatile. The fabric is quite thick but not so thick that you’d feel hot wearing it, and the length is good too - it’s quite long in the body so it won’t ride up. I went a size smaller than usual (I’m a 12 but bought S) and I’m glad I did - it’s still a great relaxed fit and not clingy. It’s washed well and after a quick blast in the tumble dryer I don’t need to iron it which is a bonus! Looking forward to getting lots of wear out of this.- Vickie (26/05/2020)

A beautifully soft yet substantial material with the excellent Kettlewell drape. The boat neck is flattering with enough shoulder to let your bra strap hang properly. It's lovely to find Breton tops in fresh colourways for a Winter palette. The cobalt bue stripe immediately brought a smile to my face when I tried it on. Unfortunately I'm tall (5 ft 11 ins) and the top is a little too short for me. But I kept it anyway for working from home as I do like the style. Lovely top. I loved the fabric and the fit. I'm a busty size 10, and I find that I have worn sizes ranging from S (in the ziggy top), to M (in this top), to L in the slit-top. This fit is wonderful, because the fabric is thin enough that I can wear a chloe jacket over it, but also sturdy enough that I can wear it alone with just a pair of slacks. I have been really disappointed by my latest Breton top. I have 2 already so was excited to broaden the range of colours. Firstly the medium (that I had previously was massive) so had to order small. Turns out the sizing has changed. Then I’ve struggled with having to pull it down all the time. Turns out it’s an inch shorter than the previous one. Reply from Kettlewell - The first breton stripe top you had was a fitted style. We introduced the current looser fit style based on customer feedback. Unfortunately, it's not going to suit everyone but the looser fit has been more popular in general.

The Bright Teal version is absolutely stunning! It is by all means the prettiest Breton stipe shade that I've ever had, and I love the boat neck feature which makes it look much more pretty than a regular scoop neck. My only gripe is that even though I'm very slender and always wear XS in Kettlewell clothing, this top is too tight around the shoulders, and mine are by no means wide, nor do I have large breasts. The shoulder area pulls up if I lift my elbows away from my waist even by just a few cm (a driving position or a desk job position, for example). I have the same issue with several other Kettlewell sleeved styles, and my seamstress says that it looks like the cut is made for people with a hunched back. Well, mine is not hunched, but it isn't ballerina-straight either - just a normal, healthy back. I keep returning because of the colour choices, but the recurrent cut&fit issues are very frustrating, especially given the price tag and the very expensive returns from overseas...- Olivia (30/07/2019)

I have been very happy with my bright teal breton this season. This season's version is a more generous fit so the M is a better fit for my 12/14 top. Last year I bought an L in the flint stripe. Reply from Kettlewell - We're using the same white as last year but it does become 'whiter' after washing so it could be that you're comparing pre-washed with a washed one.

The neckline on this top is easily the most flattering I own. Part of my first order, and I ordered everything in a small, and it all came up a little large for me , even though I am an 8-10. Reordered in an XS to compare and that was spot on for me. As soon as I got the sizing right , the top looked perfect , rather than just good . My only sadness is that by the time I realised my correct size, it was sold out in the cerise pink, which I absolutely loved . I don't know if Kettlewell consider feedback from customers to inform new seasons designs, but if they made this style of top in plain colours, I would probably buy it in every summer pallet shade.- Caroline (04/06/2019)

Last summer I bought three Kettlewell Bretons in size L in different colour stripes and loved them. First of all I was disappointed that there was no navy and soft white Breton in this summer’s range as this colour combo is such an excellent wardrobe staple however I went for the crimson stripe in L (same size as last year) - unfortunately it is bigger and baggier than last year’s Bretons - even the sleeves seem loose on me. As an autumn I loved the colour as I usually go for my safer warm reds and corals. Unfortunately had to return as the medium was too big, which was unexpected as I have the same top in medium from a previous season and it fits beautifully? Might try ordering a small but I suspect it will be too tight, I made that mistake last summer and now have a sleeveless V that I can’t really wear. I do love kettlewell but the sizing inconsistencies are tricky and unfortunately for me I think I sometimes fall in between sizes.- Catherine (29/04/2019)

I have loads of Breton tops from various manufacturers, this one is my favourite, it’s also the most expensive. Initially I decided to treat myself because I loved the colour (bright teal - gorgeous!). I am so glad I did. The fabric is soft, has some structure but isn’t stiff. It fits but doesn’t cling and is very flattering. I bought Size L (I’m size 14, 5’ 1”). Some Kettlewell tops are too long for me but this one is fine. So pleased with this top. Fabric is a little thicker than most t shirts which is great to wear on its own or with a little denim jacket. The color of course is perfect for me (cerise) . I bought the LL size , I am a USA 14 and was concerned it might be too large but it is just right, slightly loose as I like it. The size chart was dead on. I purchased other items with this and every item was exact to the fit chart. While I initially thought the price was a little high, the quality is well worth the price. I love the colours (Dutch blue and bright teal) and shape of this Breton and the LL fitted well for a size 16. However, for me, this top is too short. I am 5 ft 9 inches tall and find that anything shorter than 25 inches does not flatter me. I could not justify paying this price for something not quite right. It would be great if you could make a Breton style in a longer length though I recognise that the shorter length suits many people.- LizB (16/03/2019)

These are a welcome burst of fresh spring colours! My two new bretons have just arrived, in cerise stripe and bright jade. Both are lovely. The cerise is a vibrant, true, blue-pink, the jade a clear shade balanced between green and blue. Both go very well with other garments in the Kettlewell Winter palette. The material seems a little softer than the navy breton from last season, and the cut is just a shade more generous (which will probably make them a tad cooler in the summer). The boat neck is very easy to wear, and looks great with a Florence Infinity scarf in either a matching or a contrasting colour. You can wear a camisole or a silky top underneath for cooler days or if you want to layer. These tops are a great combination of a classic style that can be worn for years, with some vivid new colours that add a fresh dimension to the wardrobe. A great start to spring!- Kathy (10/03/2019)
