SIZE: Medium COLOUR: Bright Navy
First time with a rib shirt for me but I will be getting more as I LOVE it! So forgiving and skimming but also looks higher end than a plain uncollared top - the finishing touches of plain placket and cuffs on the ribbed material just elevates it onto another level. Will go brilliantly over silky roll necks and under jumpers. Have a go if in doubt!- Jill (05/04/2024)

I LOVE this shirt! I don’t usually buy shirts, especially fitted ones, as in general I prefer a more relaxed fit top or T shirt. I was swayed by the bright lime colour and as soon as I tried it on it became my favourite top EVER! It is so flattering and versatile. I have now ordered cornflower but must admit I was slightly disappointed in the colour choices for bright Springs. The shirt is not available for a few weeks and I’m not sure if I’ll feel the wow as I did for the lime as I suit turquoises and aquas rather than blue but fingers crossed. I lovely versatile blouse, the quality is always very good. I do sometimes find Kettlewell sizing confusing. I ordered a LL size, and found it not over generous. So on sone sizing, l have to size up.- April (22/01/2024)

Love this shirt! I ordered the Lime along with a cream Chloe. They arrived the day before Thanksgiving--I wore them to dinner and felt absolutely smashing. Trim fit, lovely stretchy fabric, looks nice open or buttoned. The woven color and cuffs make it a touch more uptown. I came back and got the Mint. Very happy!- Louise (10/12/2023)

Lovely shirt. I bought both Chinese blue and the very pale pink. Very comfortable and light. Have only worn both a couple of times but looking forward to wearing on a long flight as they don't crease and, as the sleeves roll up well, will be perfect when landing in the heat. I sized up which works fine as l wanted it looser rather than very fitted. As longer too it looks fine when not tucked in. I always wear bright colours and also tried the lime green. Lovely shirt, colour really rich. I am between sizes s and m and bought the Medium to wear as a shirt over camisoles or to wear alone. The colour, spiced Coral, is really cheerful. Ordered an L - I’m a size 14 with a midriff so didn’t want it tight - an M may have been ok as it’s quite stretchy. Will be worn many times I’m sure under jumpers or just with a camisole underneath. This is my second cotton rib shirt. (First is in rose taupe). Really love the style and so easy to wear. Have worn them mainly as an over shirt so far but expect I'll shall wear them done up under a jumper in the winter. I'm a size 12 and the medium fits just right. Button fell off. The buttons are sewn on very loose. Had to resew all of the buttons on this top so wouldn’t lose them. If you can’t sew watch the buttons carefully.- Diane (23/07/2023)

I am a curvy size 10 and the small fits beautifully without any gaping. This shirt will work well under sweaters in winter but also works well on its own in summer. I tend to roll the sleeves up to give more casual look. This is my third ribbed shirt and I am seriously considering the addition of a fourth!- Barbara (19/07/2023)

This is my fourth cotton rib shirt, I love the design and find that it is a very useful piece in my wardrobe both for wearing on it's own and for layering. The colours are lovely and rich, as teal is one of my best colours I was very pleased to add this to my collection. I usually take a size 10 in tops and my other cotton ribs are all medium to allow use as a jacket but I bought this in a small and as the material has plenty of give it is fine. I also thought it might make me look like I was going to work. In fact, it looks great on and I now own 3 of these in small. I love wearing this open, eg over a cream square neck vest. I use it like a long smart cardigan, rolling up the sleeves if I need to be cooler. Only recently began to purchase the Cotton Rib Shirt and now wondered why I'd waited so long. The rib allows room without being clingy but gives a lovely shape. I use it either on its own or like a cardi/jacket over another top. The colours are, as always, gorgeous. I even had someone stop me recently and asked me where I bought the shirt from. I have been spurning this shirt for forever, in the belief that it couldn't work for me in a jersey form. I have to say I was SO wrong! I thought the jersey would give it a rather 'flabby' look but it is neat as a pin and skims so very effectively over my problem mid area. The collar remains neat and in place ( so many collars curl up or go lop-sided as soon as they worn), the buttons do not gape in any way at all, and the cuff can be turned back one turn and stay in place in a really cool way. I'm so annoyed with myself for constantly dismissing this one. My advice? If in doubt, give it a try!- Andrea (25/05/2023)

I rarely buy shirts because they always seem to gape on me. I took a chance after seeing Pru wearing it as it looked such a good fit on her. This shirt fits perfectly. The combination of the stretchy material for the main body of the shirt with a non stretchy placket works extremely well. It’s comfortable, does not gape and the colours are great. I now have three. They also appeal to my classic style with the perfect standing collar and no gap button front. I am between a size M and L. I recently purchased my first Cotton Rib Shirt in periwinkle which happens to be one of my 100% colors. I am a blue spring. I don’t know why I waited so long to purchase one of these shirts. The fit is perfect. No gapping in the front due to the cotton rib, which has just enough give to lay smoothly buttoned up. I’m a U.S. size 14P and the L fits perfectly. I t washes unbelievably well. No ironing necessary. It is the perfect button down, collared shirt for layering, under, over or stand alone ! I immediately purchased two more in lime and spiced coral. I love the look under the super soft sweatshirts which I always order a size up for layering and a relaxed fit. I’m exactly on the border between S and M and sized up. 5’8 », 130lb. The princess seams give this a very neat, shaped look. The M is a close but not z tight fit, no dreaded button gaps at chest. I love the crispness of the collar, placket and cuffs contrasting with the very comfortable fabric of the shirt itself. I’m definitely on “team ribbed shirt”. Bought the navy blue in Medium (I’m 5’1” and 12/14). Teamed it with a sleeveless turtle in white , Kettlewell navy trousers, and the Iris Fleece jacket. Felt a million dollars and the fleece is quite warm and the silver zipper smartens it up. The compliments! Definitely coming on my Inter Rail holiday with me as versatile. Long enough to cover my bottom! The shirt definitely streamlines my shape so I look gently curvy rather than bumpy. Can wear open over a lace camisole for a more light-jacket look. (Cover my arms!) Have also bought the soft white which is really more a light cream - but that is OK. I have cream trousers that match. I wear it over a sherbet orange top. Wish they made it in Iris and a Gandhi Purple (which Kettlewell seem to have discontinued 🥺 Iris is the big colour surprise for me this year. I absolutely love these shirts. They are soft and fitted in gorgeous colours. They last me all year. Under jumpers in winter, over long sleeve tops in Spring, Autumn and as a "jacket" in the summer. I am about 5ft 2 and they are a good length to wear over trousers. Please never stop making these as I buy at least 1 or 2 every season in new deep colours!- Niki (29/03/2023)

I really like the quality of the Cotton Rib shirt. The material and cut is perfect. However, the Periwinkle color is much darker and richer than pictured. I would have preferred to get the color as shown on the website, as I am a very fair Spring and the actual color is too strong for me. Coral is a lovely shade and quite vibrant. I ordered S and am a 8/10. It fits nicely without pulling anywhere. If it had been even slightly bigger though it would have had to go back. So if you are a definite 8 then it would likely be too big.- Sandra (07/03/2023)

These are fantastic shirts ! I have several and was delighted to see them in Periwinkle , a lovely mid blue and navy, which I like to wear with colourful tops underneath. Very comfortable in the lovely rib cotton and a great fit . They are very versatile and look good buttoned as well as open with a vest showing. This is my first cotton rib shirt purchase and it won’t be my last . I usually don’t buy shirts as if they fit me around shoulders and waist they don’t close properly over my bust . I read the reviews and thought give this a go you can always return it . I love it ! the fit is beautiful and with the princess seaming (so clever) and shaped hem this shirt looks truly feminine and not like i’ve just thrown on my husbands shirt . I love the cotton rib shirt and was delighted to see it in navy. It’s quite expensive but such a lovely fit that it really is worth it . I like navy as a base for a variety of colours underneath . I am a 14, verging on a 16 as I am rather top heavy!. However, in this shirt the large fits well and is easily big enough for layers underneath without straining on the front buttons. There is plenty of stretch in the rib fabric and the fact that there are a lot of buttons closely spaced means that there is no gaping, a great design feature. Together with the SCW, the rib shirt is my favourite item . Please keep making it as the fit is superb, and not available anywhere else. The cotton ribbed shirts are one of my favorite Kettlewell shirts. They are neat and fitted and come in gorgeous colors! They are very versatile and can be styled many different ways. A white shirt appears on almost every article about capsule wardrobes but I think they are the most difficult item to find. They have to be both practical and flattering and I have tried so many over the years but they have never been perfect ........ until now........! This is a lovely soft white (so it doesn't look like school uniform), it's not see through ( for once), it's the perfect length (to just show a little under sweaters) and no gaping at the bust ( a miracle!). Am very surprised by how much I like this shirt. Not really a button-up kinda gal, but am new to Kettlewell and to dressing for my “classic” style. I’m normally a SM but upsized to a M so the drape of the fabric doesn’t show the swell of my lower tummy. The fabric has a wonderful stretch and is very well made. I’m still not ready for most of the saturated winter colors, so I went with the very classy French Grey so I can wear a pop of brighter color underneath when unbuttoned. Please, please bring back the previous style of jersey shirt. I had several of them and loved the shape, colours and fit. This one I find is not as comfortable to wear. From time to time I buy a button-down shirt, and invariably it hangs in my closet never worn. When this style came out, I dismissed it. Then Melissa commented in a video how the fabric is the same as a ribbed cami (the Nina?) that came out a couple of years ago that I loved so I gave this top another look. I can't tell you how much I love it! The rib gives the fabric a bit of stretch, while still maintaining its shape - moving this style far away from other button-downs to me feel stiff and boring. Soft Autumn - I have always been unsure about the cotton Rib Shirt as I don't tend to wear shirts however, having seen the Tropical Jade shirt paired with the Nina Rib Vest in Spiced Coral I was tempted to give it a try. The two together looked really summery and fresh. In the event, worn together they felt too bright for me. I have difficulty with pairings of colours that are not tonal, so that could be a factor as well. The shirt is nicely fitted, enhancing my shape and so comfortable to wear. So far, I have worn it buttoned with the sleeves rolled up and much to my surprise, I like it a lot! I took the shirt on a recent holiday and it proved to be a useful piece. Best shirt ever! This is a beautifully tailored shirt. I love the crispness of the collar and the neatness of the front button placket. I have always been a fan of the cotton jersey shirt but had problems with pulling and gaping at the bust. The ribbing in the cotton rib shirt allows for stretch without gaping so it fits neatly across the bust. I am between S and XS in KW. In this shirt, I take a S to accommodate my bust but it also fits neatly on the shoulders. Looking forward to ordering more colours outside of the beautiful nightshade.- LORI (27/06/2022)

I now have 5 of these shirts and equally a similar number of their predecessor the cotton shirt. These are stretchy and fit nicely with a bit of shape to them. Because they are stretchy they are comfortable to wear and not really thick, so they can be worn under a jacket, on their own or teamed with a wrap. They really go with anything, jeans, shorts, skirts and crops and are a universal piece. I regularly travel in these tops as they are ideal on planes, they also can be used as a jacket themselves with a cami or a vest top underneath. I've got them in Apple Mint, Aquarius, Tropical Jade, Dutch Blue and Spiced Coral and can totally recommend them. I'm 5ft 5 and size 12/14 UK sizing and I wear the medium.- Gill (20/06/2022)

The Hot Pink color is VERY bright, much brighter than Fuchsia. But I am a Bright/Clear/Sprinter Winter and love the brights! More bright colors please. I'm 60, 5'2", 127 lbs. I was interested in this shirt and Kettlewell because of the "Shop for your color palette" idea. I was into that in the 80s and Kettlewell has taken it to a new level. I ordered the medium - if you grew up in my decade you may not like your clothes to touch you - therefore oder a size up. But I've been trying to get over that idea - the shirt shows my curves and that's a good thing at my age. If the current generation can show what they show I think I can afford to show my shape! I am a silver headed Winter who cannot wear black. I look good in white, navy, a certain grey and lobelia. 'Lobelia / Sapphire and I are certainly made for each other!' I have a beautiful winter coat in Lobelia and now this beautiful cotton rib shirt in the same colour tone - Sapphire. My first cotton rib shirt was in Ice Blue. So easy to wear over a camis or sleeveless tee. The quality look of the fabric is excellent; the plain cuffs and button / button hole facings contrasting with the ribbed sleeves and body pieces makes the shirt really stylish. It is easy to wash, soft and comfortable to wear. The ribbing forms beautifully around the body with no baggy folds competing with a jacket when occasionally worn on the top. I would really like a white one now please. Kettlewell, when you are creating your colour designs, please would you remember us blue based Winters and think of other combinations. The Cotton Jersey Shirt has been one of my all time favorite tops at KW and so I was expecting to love this Cotton Rib Shirt too, but I must say that I prefer the former Cotton Jersey Shirt. I feel that the jersey fabric was more comfortable than the rib, and I liked the jersey collars and cuffs better than the cotton ones that are on this shirt. One of the three shirts that I ordered (all size XS), was bigger than the others and so I'm returning it. It bagged around the arms and body. The button-down collared shirts from Kettlewell are the design that is most flattering for me. I was concerned about the shift to this iteration, but the combination of stretch shirt panels with woven cuffs and collar is perfect. I'm also appreciative of the primarily COTTON fabric, over other fibers. This shirt hits the mark to be my go-to uniform. It can be dressed up or more casual; layered or alone; tucked in or out. Initially I didn't take much notice of these shirts, however having bought the previous incarnation, I thought I would try the ribbed version and fell in love with them. I have two one in Dutch Blue and the other in Apple Mint but with the launch of new colours in March I have a further three on order. Very flattering fit, particularly if you have a bit of a tum, they look great under the Chloe and Rachel jacket and can be dressed up or down. This is a beautifully made garment. Every seam is overlocked, not a stray thread to be found. The top stitching on collar, cuffs and button placket is laser precise, and there are 10 buttons. This means I can open the top 3 buttons without revealing more than I wish and without ugly gaping. The collar fits well around the neck. I love that the collar and cuffs are in a woven cotton, which makes it firm enough to stand up, but not stiff and scratchy. Because of the stretch fabric at last I have a shirt that flatters my waist but without wrinkling across my chest. So versatile as can be worn tucked in for smarter occasions, or worn out to show off the sweet shirtail hem. Years since I've worn a shirt, but this is a keeper.- Barbara (04/04/2022)

I just purchased the cotton rib shirt and fell in love with it! When I wore it the other day, it did my soul good to receive so many compliments. The quality of the shirt is unparalleled and it can be worn as a jacket or a shirt under a jacket because it is so light weight. Because I live in San Antonio, Texas, this shirt is the perfect top to wear when it is hot here which lasts from April to October. You probably wonder why I would want to wear long sleeves in such heat but it is because we go from one air conditioner to another so I do get quite chilly indoors. I adore this shirt - I hadn't realised what an upgrade it is from the previous jersey shirt otherwise I would have bought it before now. I'm a petite gamine, size 6 UK - the design is sharp, contemporary and the fit in the body and at the collar is perfect. The sleeves are a little long but I can live with that as this is not a petite range. I adore these shirts. Treetop was no 4 and I have also just purchased Pine, taking me to 5. The ribbing adds texture, and the contrast of the collar and cuffs adds interest. The shaping is excellent for a woman, showing off the curves, but not clinging. As a larger busted lady, I am pleased these shirts do not gap. I'm sending this back with a heavy heart. I love the plain jersey shirts, but the extra bit of structure in this fabric didn't work for me. It led to slight lumps and bumps where the other shirts skim. Shame, as it's a beautiful shirt and I really love the colour. The fabric just isn't quite right for me.- Caroline (22/10/2021)

I absolutely love the cotton rib shirt, as I did the previous cotton jersey shirt. It slightly more 'dressy' than the jersey shirt. It has a great, fitted shape. I am a 14/16 and the L is perfect. I would have like to buy another but can't find a second colour among the new colours that would work for me. Hopefully you'll have different, new colours next year for a true leaf/vibrant autumn. I am delighted with this stunning new design cotton rib shirt ! The new version is - in my opinion - superior to the old style. It falls better, feels more comfortable and looks better. This is my first Kettlewell button down shirt. I Love the nice neat fit and feel of the ribbed fabric! I purchased the antique white color and it is not see through. I have not worn it yet as it's still warm and humid where I live. This shirt is smart enough to wear with trousers, skirts, or jeans. I plan to wear it buttoned up on it's own with a colored bottom and belt. In the winter, I will pair it with my cotton cashmere wrap in royal purple.- Laurie (20/09/2021)

Great quality, colour and fit - the ribbed fabric gently follows the contours of the body. Kettlewell haven't scrimped on the buttons and as they are close together so no gaping at the bust. Very well made. I have ordered another. I am usually a 10 and would normally order an S but after reading the sizing guide decided on an M It fits well, not tight but definitely not loose- LL (09/09/2021)

Much prefer this ribbed shirt to the original cotton jersey shirt as it’s just a bit smarter but still casual. Pink raspberry makes me feel so happy as a Summer who likes a bit of colour! Hoping there’ll be more in soft white, pink ice, blue ice for winter. I’m usually a size small and the S fits perfectly: gently fitted and not clingy.- Toots (09/08/2021)

If these are your colors I believe you will love this top. Sadly the colors were not for me but am looking forward to seeing this top in different colors in future collections. The style, fit, fabric and stitching is superb. Fingers crossed for Ivory in next seasons collection. I can see myself buying one or two of these every year, if my colors are offered. I am 5"9" so bought the LL so it would fit neatly over my 38D bust without gaping. I seldom wear shirts because of this problem. Laguna is a beautiful colour for me as a dark summer. Will be wearing it as a light open top over vests and T shirts as well. Great sleeve length that can also be turned back for a more casual look. So pleased this shirt made it back into the Kettlewell offering. I had previously bought the Autumn palette orange and have worn it over and again, and love that it can be dressed up and casual too. The fit is super - feminine and shapely to skim your curves and does not gape on the front if buttoned up (as a UK14 38DD this is appreciated) and also great to wear open with a little top beneath. The contrast of the ribbing on the shirt vs the woven collar and cuffs is a great touch. Now added the Laguna and Antique White to my wardrobe and know I will get lots of wear from them too. I would love additional colours in the Autumn palette such as a pink or red/burgundy or mid-green please.- jane (11/06/2021)

I absolutely love this shirt, the length is perfect. The collar and cuffs are a lovely plain cotton and are a beautiful contrast to the rib fabric. I also have this shirt in Ice blue and would buy more if there were more winter colours. I have also bought the matching vests in size L as I have narrow shoulders. I already have purchased the cosy jersey shirts and this is a similar style, very flattering, soft and comfortable to wear. I am a size 14/16 5’3’’. In some KW styles I am between sizes. Just what I was looking for! I love the other KW jersey shirts but they are very soft in style, the addition of firm fabric woven collar and cuffs really elevates the potential of this shirt. It has same cosy jersey comfort but collar looks crisp and smart in online meetings or F2F, and it works great under sweaters and tops, I like how jersey shirts doesn’t create lumps and bumps under tops. I had to move the cuff button, no big deal, and will wear cuffs turned back under long sleeved tops. A hit- ordered the antique white to replace the white shirts that don’t suit me and Laguna will gets lots of wear later in year. Bought the matching vest to wear as a set right now in summer in the lovely apple mint, a new colour for me, perhaps a bit cool for a ‘warm’, not so much towards limey green as expected but not an icy pastel either. Only slight wish list would be a slightly more exaggerated collar point. UK 14, 34F, the L is perfect, buttons close enough together so no pulling when buttoned and not baggy when worn open.- Kary (05/06/2021)
