Your Neutrals Masterclass

When we think about our seasonal palettes, we usually focus on the beautiful, bold brights - from the Light Aqua and Coral of Spring to the Fuchsia and Cobalt Blue of Winter - and it's easy to forget that knowing our best neutral colours is every bit as important as knowing our brights.

The right neutrals for you not only make you look and feel amazing (especially after a lifetime of Black and White, if those aren't your best), but provide the foundation on which your wardrobe is built. They anchor so many outfits, and turn a handful of bright tops into an endlessly mix-and-match-able fully functioning wardrobe.

So which are your best neutrals? The answer is that it depends on your skintone, which dictates your personal seasonal palette. Are you Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter? If you don't yet know, your first step is to visit our colour quiz to get you started. Once you know which palette belongs to you, simply click on the links below to discover your best neutrals, as well as how to incorporate them into your wardrobe and learn which items you should own in neutrals and which in brights.

Yes - I agree with Eileen about Indigo. Many high street versions are just dark navy, but Kettlewell's is wonderful. Great base colour for Winters and such a good mixer!

Love this! As a Summer, I can do the 100% neutral look but I need a good nudge towards adding pops of colour to an outfit. This blog is so helpful and enabling. Thank you.

This is a great article! However, you left out another great neutral for winters: Indigo! I prefer Indigo over navy; it is a rich color which pairs with every color in the winter palette.

This is such a helpful article. As I'm transitioning my wardrobe to a cool summer one I've found it difficult to focus on what to do first. This article offers simple straightforward forward advice that I can follow and provides three lovely visual examples as to how to make things work. Thank you.
