Meet our new Autumn Ambassador Kate Evans

Our new Autumn Colour Ambassador, image consultant and life coach Kate Evans, shares the secrets of her style
– and her hero item from
Kettlewell’s A/W18 collection.

Neutrals are just as important as the brights and Kate Evans demonstrates perfectly how to access this
understated look whilst still choosing colours that complement her skin tone and Autumn colouring.

What are your daytime essentials for work and weekend?

For work, a well-cut trouser suit or simple shift dress. For weekend, a pair of jeans, cashmere jumper, leather jacket and ankle boots or trainers.

What’s your favourite dressed-up look for an evening out?

Leather trousers, a silk shirt and a pair of knock-out heels.

Kate wears a Milan Knit Crew in Antique Teal,
Stripey Pima Tee in Red Earth with a Cashmere Gauze Stole in Dark Flint
and a Milan Knit Crew in Cream with a Merino Infinity Scarf in Rustic Red Marl.

Favourite piece from the Kettlewell A/W collection and why?

The Milan Crew jumper. I have recommended it to so many of my clients. Great quality, great colours, great fit.

Favourite colour and why…

Oh, this is so hard! It would probably be pewter…. a soft grey-brown. It just goes with everything and really suits my colouring.

Best feature (and parts you prefer to play down)?

My legs are ridiculously long (although sometimes too long, as it’s hard to find trousers that fit) so I guess they are a benefit. The area that very rarely gets to see the light of day is my upper arms.

How does wearing the right colours for you make you feel?

Happy. Simple as that. They are doing all the hard work for you, so your make-up and the rest of the outfit doesn’t have to work as hard.

No outfit is complete without…

Accessories – every time. You can completely change the look and purpose of an outfit purely by changing the accessories, so they are vital.

I am an autumn and I was under the impression that blue denim is not a autumn colour but Kate is wearing it along with grey boots which are I also thought were not autumn. I am a redhead so I am used to autumns wearing the golds, oranges and browns.

Kettlewell Colours: Autumn denim has a slight teal hue ie - a Marine Navy and there are shades of grey which are suitable for Autumns eg Lizard Grey and Pebble Grey. Check out our Shop by Colour page for Autumn colours - you are definitely not limited to golds, oranges and browns :-) https://www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/season/autumn

If Kate is Soft Warm Light in the tonal system she is likely a Soft Autumn and therefore is at the Summer end of the Autumn palette. She has that 'look' to my eye.

I agree with the pewter comment. I would love pewter as long as it's a warm medium grey pewter. I have tried the mole but it's too dark. I cannot wear such dark colours.

Hi Chrissy and Amy, I am sorry if the colours I have been wearing have confused you. I was trained and now advise my clients in the tonal system which is similar to the seasonal system but there are a few differences. In the tonal system, my colouring is “soft, warm, light” which means the colours I wear should be calm, tonal, worn with other calm colours. They should be light and they should have a warm undertone. Sometimes you can wear a brighter colour but it needs to be exact! I was asked to be the autumn Ambassador as some of the colours I wear are in that category but not all. (I guess I was also asked as I bring other elements to the party due to my job and the experience I have gathered having worked with thousands of men and women over the last 15 years.) I feel “Colour” is a bit like following a recipe….when you are unsure of it- you follow it to the letter…once you have gained confidence and know how to flex it- you can begin to be more creative. I am perhaps a little more creative in how I wear colour but I would hope that might give you inspiration rather then confuse. If you ever need my help in understanding your colouring – please do get in touch! Kate

I agree that Kate dosent seem to be wearing many Autumn colours - partly as she doesnt look a typical Warm deep person to me !

I'm so glad I found Kettlewell. I confess to not having bought anything from you yet BUT my cat and I really enjoy looking online and in the catalogue. At last I can find colours that suit me. I'm a light Autumn but can just about get away with a few colours on the Spring range provided they are the "earthier" ones.

Please post an Ambassador on Instagram that actually wears Autumn colors. I have been watching Kate on Instagram and she wears colors like Dusty pink!!! and often is not sticking to Autumn colors. Is there an Autumn Ambassador that is more passionate about wearing Autumn colors on instagram?

Barbara on Oct 19, 2018 9:20 AM

I notice from Kate's Instagram page that one of her mottos is 'Lipstick is never a bad idea'. I couldn't agree more and isn't this what Jo has been telling us for ages?

Jennie Rayment on Oct 17, 2018 9:11 AM

Please could we ask Kettlewell to include pewter in their colour range?

What would be the nearest colour currently offered?

Kettlewell Colours: The nearest to Pewter is Mole - styles in this colour are expected in the next month. We have a Cashmere Gauze Stole in Dark Flint (the one Kate is wearing) - this has sold out but we have ordered more!
