Behind the scenes at the AW 18 shoot

This week, instead of checking the weather forecast each morning for blues skies and brilliant sunshine, I’ve been praying for cloud and for signs of it turning out overcast (I know, sorry about that – as a summer-loving Cancerian it’s not me at all). But while bright sunlight is lovely on any other day, it’s more of hindrance than a help when you’re shooting your A/W catalogue on the coast and need it to look more autumn mists and mellow fruitfulness than full-on barbecue summer.

In the past, we’ve tended to shy away from shooting on British beaches because, apart from the unpredictable weather, it can be a logistical nightmare if you don’t have a base to work from (you need a place for the models to change between shots and somewhere to hang the collection – not to mention a kettle to make all those mugs of tea!). Thankfully for this one we had Hive Beach House down the road from Kettlewell HQ at Burton Bradstock in Dorset – a lovely clapperboarded house which literally sits on the shingle and has amazing views stretching down Chesil Beach and across to Lyme Bay.

Once again we had our Autumn model Alex, who brought along her very well-behaved pet chihuaha, Stella, and told us how, since our last shoot, she has totally revamped her wardrobe and now only wears her Autumn colours (as you can imagine that was music to my ears!). We also had our super-fit, yoga-loving Summer model Emma, who looked great in all the smoky shades and berry tones.

Without giving too much away and spoiling the surprise for what’s in store come September, here is a sneak peek behind the scenes at the shoot. And not an ice-cream cone in sight.
