Colour of the Month - Light Aqua

It's time for a bright and beautiful new colour of the month! And this one really is bright and beautiful - after spending the last couple of months catering to both cool toned seasons, Winter and Summer, with Mulberry, and then the Autumns with Moss, it felt rather like our Spring friends were being a bit neglected. So this month it's all things light, bright, and clear, and we're taking a good look at Light Aqua. Bonus, it's also wearable for one other season too - read on to find out if it's for you.

Can I wear it?

Light Aqua is, as the name suggests, primarily a light colour. It falls right on the borderline between warm and cool (as so many shades of aqua and teal do, due their mix of yellow and blue), meaning it looks amazing on Springs who suit the cooler end of their colour palette, but also suits one of the cool toned seasons.

While it lacks the intensity and boldness of Winter's colours, this light and not-too-warm-not-too-cool shade works well for both Springs and Summers. Side note: as well as being fairly disastrous on Winters, this shade is far too lightweight for Autumns, who need a deeper, softer teal to look their best.

If you want to know more about how colours can work on more than one season, this post on universal colours will give you all the information you need.

How to wear it: Spring

Light Aqua Cotton Jersey Shirt | Lapis Blue Peplum Jacket | Lapis Blue Ponte Pencil Skirt | Aqua Leather Shoulder Bag | Yellow Suede Lorenz Shoes

Star Blue & Paradise Leopard Faux Wrap | Light Aqua Long Camisole | Lapis Blue Ponte Culottes | Silver Superga Metallic Trainers

How to wear it: Summer

Light Aqua Sara V Neck | Bluebell Chloe Jacket | Snow White Reiko Chinos | All White Superga Trainers

Light Aqua Semi Scoop 1/2 Sleeve | Slate Roxy Jacket | Light Grey Rosa 7/8 Trousers | Blue Teal Superga Trainers

Light Dove Grey & Paradise Tilly Dress | Wild Orchid Cashmere Gauze Stole | Silver Metallic Belt | Grey Suede Lorenz Shoes

Your alternative - Autumn

Style note: Light Aqua is too insubstantial and clear for you. Opt for elegant Soft Teal or go bold in Bright Teal.

Your alternative - Winter

Style note: Although light aqua has plenty of brightness, it isn't cool or bold enough for you. Your skin will glow in stronger Turquoise and Azure though, and if you want to go super pale, Iced Aqua is an amazing light shade for you.

I have always loved the turquoise but as a Cool Summer have to be very careful over the shade as I can look like I haven't slept for days with the wrong one!! I now understand that I often have veered into the Spring palette in the past. I have been eyeing this new shade but sadly, no faux wrapper or classic camisole to be had :( Am considering buying a long camisole and having it shortened on this one occasion to Summer tone a turquoise cashmere cardigan, and pair of jeans that I currently can only wear with white. More items in this new colour please!!

Being a blue fan, through life I have owned several light aqua tops I reluctantly wore because "I had bought them", and ended up in the donation pile looking new.

My life changing experience was to be diagnosed a Winter. And light aqua was excluded from the palette. Thanks for this blog confirming why I should not feel guilty of not wearing such a beautiful colour!
